The 2020 presidential election remains up in the air Wednesday morning, as ballots are still being counted in a number of Democrat-run battleground states, which may be a worst-case scenario for Republicans, even though President Donald Trump leads in those states.
On a better note, the Democratic Party’s window of opportunity to take control of the Senate is now slim, and while Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., easily retained her seat, the GOP can boast that the democratic socialist is no longer the youngest member of Congress.
Madison Cawthorn, a 25-year-old Republican candidate running in North Carolina’s 11th Congressional District, became the youngest member in modern history to ever be elected to Congress.
To celebrate his historic win Tuesday evening, Cawthorn tweeted: “Cry more, lib.”

Cawthorn, a quadriplegic who was left paralyzed by a auto accident at the age of 18, won the GOP primary in June, while still 24 — the constitutionally-mandated age to serve in the House is 25.
Born on August 1, the candidate met the requirement before the general election, for the seat that was previously held by White House chief of staff, Mark Meadows.
Interestingly, Cawthorn cited AOC on his website, while detailing his decision to run for office.
“I’m running because our faith, our freedoms and our values are under assault from coastal elites and leftists like [Speaker] Nancy Pelosi and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez,” he wrote.
“I am running because, America is worth fighting for,” Cawthorn added. “I’m a fighter. I’ve overcome great adversity. I will be a strong voice for faith, family & freedom.”
Cawthorn gained national attention, for his stirring speech at the 2020 Republican National Convention.
“If you don’t think young people can change the world, then you don’t know American history,” he said.
“George Washington was 21 when he received his first military commission,” he told the audience. “Abe Lincoln was 22 when he first ran for office. James Madison was 25 when he signed the Declaration of Independence.”
But it was the end of his speech that really stood out, as Cawthorn stood up from his wheelchair — with a little assist.
“I say to Americans who love our country — young and old — be a radical for freedom. Be a radical for liberty,” he said. “Be a radical for our republic. For which I stand. One nation. Under God. With liberty and justice for all.”
As for the reaction to Cawthorn’s tweet, the left lived down to a reputation they have worked so hard to establish.
