In a callback perhaps to the days when he hosted the Apprentice TV show, President Donald Trump may tell FBI Director Christopher Wray, Defense Secretary Mark Esper, and possibly CIA Director Gina Haspel “you’re fired,” a senior White House official told Fox News on Sunday.  Wray, in particular, could be out of a job if Trump wins reelection according to various reports. The director has come under criticism, among other issues, for allegedly sitting on documents related to the Trump-Russia probe that should have been declassified.

Similarly, the federal law enforcement agency did not disclose material about Hunter Biden’s business dealings in Ukraine that could constitute withholding evidence relevant to the president’s defense when the Democrat-controlled U.S. House impeached him. The FBI actually hasn’t as yet formally confirmed that it is investigating the Biden family for alleged corruption pursuant to emails reportedly found on Hunter Biden’s laptop.

Among other things, Trump himself has conveyed frustration that Wray hasn’t been more forthcoming with documentation about the scandals and earlier this month expressed disappointment that Wray isn’t taking voter fraud more seriously. Wray has also rejected claims that the FBI unfairly targeted the Trump campaign which generally runs counter to the findings of the Justice Department’s inspector general and of course, what the president has contended. Trump has also said that he was bothered when Wray classified Antifa as an idea rather than an organization. Bottom line: Many feel that Wray sees his job as protecting the swamp rather than draining it.

Along these lines, U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson has accused the FBI under Wray of stonewalling information about Hunter Biden’s laptop and has called for the inspector general to look into the investigation.

Nominated by President Trump in the summer of 2017 to replace James Comey, Wray is a former corporate lawyer and Justice Department bureaucrat who has no on-the-ground policing experience per se. The FBI director serves a 10-year term but can be removed by the president

Secretary of Defense Mark Esper may also be on the chopping block. “Rumors that Esper could be out of his job at the Pentagon have been circulating for months since the defense secretary [publicly] spoke out against Trump’s remarks and said he is not in favor of the president invoking the Insurrection Act in order to send the U.S. military to quell violent protests,” Fox News reported.

Deploying the military domestically is subject to various stringent legal technicalities, but Esper wouldn’t be the first Pentagon official who would rather deploy troops to protect foreign countries rather than our own. As far as Haspel is concerned, an unnamed senior administration official told Fox News that she might wind up holding on to her job after all because she and Trump have a good relationship.

The Trump administration may be greasing the skids to get rid of more officials in addition to Christopher Wray, such as Obama holdovers and Never Trumpers in the so-called Deep State, who have actively or passive-aggressively thwarted the MAGA agenda from behind the scenes.

A presidential executive order that was the product of nearly four years of effort purports to make it easier to hire – and fire – federal bureaucrats in a move meant to “increase accountability for Federal employees who make substantive contributions to executive branch policy.”
