President Donald Trump is still not tired of winning, in case anyone seriously doubted that even for a minute as he barnstorms the country for one rally after another. A fired-up POTUS unequivocally told London-based journalist Piers Morgan by phone that he is on track for reelection, underscoring that “the polls were wrong last time.”
During the conversation, Morgan provided Trump with what the often-controversial TV host of Good Morning Britain considers a game-changing secret weapon for defeating Democrat presidential nominee Joe Biden. At the same time, he cautioned overconfident Dems that an ongoing Biden blooper reel could hand the election to Trump.
During the 25-minute phone call, Morgan asked the president if he really thought he can win. “‘YES!’ he barked back emphatically, with a certainty that I hadn’t heard since I last asked him that question a week before the 2016 election when very few others gave him a cat in hell’s chance. He was right then, and if ‘Sleepy Joe’ Biden doesn’t get his act together fast then Trump may just prove everyone wrong again,” Morgan explained in a Daily Mail column.
Morgan, a self-described liberal, praised Trump for a focused, measured, and calmer style of discourse in debate two that “was far more effective than the raging bull in the first debate” and more pleasing to independent voters. “People seemed to like that me better…but some people like the other me too,” the president quipped in response.
Piers Morgan is one of the few British media pundits who has been fair to Trump, who he met on the Celebrity Apprentice TV show. Morgan has, however, been harshly critical of Trump’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic, but that apparently didn’t discourage the president from getting back in touch. Morgan has leveled generally similar COVID criticism at U.K. Prime Minister Boris Johnson. Some say Morgan has given over to COVID fear-mongering.
“It was our first conversation since he unfollowed me on Twitter in April after I wrote a Mail column telling him to ‘Shut the f**k up Mr President,’ because he suggested people should be injected with bleach to cure coronavirus,” Morgan recalled. The president is apparently letting bygones be bygones even though Morgan seemingly bought into a debunked narrative.
Morgan seems to be accepting at face value public polls that show Trump behind Biden in the contest, previously predicting that he is “definitely heading for a shellacking.” Parenthetically, Morgan may not take into consideration that other analysts have questioned the data for flawed methodology or being ideologically driven. Morgan may be unaware, too, that millions of Americans have already cast a ballot in early voting. Both campaigns have access to internal polling, which may paint a different picture.
Morgan claims that the phone call from the White House occurred after he publicly offered to provide campaign advice to the president during a remote hookup with Fox & Friends. This may be the same interview that led to Morgan being cancelled by CNN for referring to the pro-Biden mainstream media as hyper-partisan.

Trump’s game-changer could be empathy, Piers Morgan advised the president during their chat.
“‘Americans are suffering,’ I said. ‘They’re losing their loved ones to the virus, and their jobs and livelihoods too. They need to see and hear that their president understands and cares how bad things are, and they want to feel hope that their president can get them out of this mess. A little more empathy will go a long way. Trump heard me out with unusual patience, and said he got what I was saying. Whether he acts on my advice remains to be seen.”
Morgan noted that Democrats should be wary of the confused gaffe machine that is Joe Biden, thinking he’s running against George W. Bush or boasting about his party’s voter fraud organization, as two of countless examples.
“If Biden continues to make such excruciating unforced errors between now and polling day, it may yet come back to haunt him and the Democrats at the polling booth.”

Morgan acknowledged that with his business background, Trump’s brusque approach is far more results-based than all talk, no action, career politicians like Biden.
“There’s no doubt that Trump’s fire-breathing energy and showmanship give him a massive performative advantage over Biden who looks and sounds like the old man of 77 that he is…But if it comes down to who may best revive the wreckage of the US economy, Trump may have the edge given how well he ran the economy before the virus struck.
“There’s no doubt that many Americans share Trump’s view that ‘the cure can’t be worse than the disease and his ‘open up’ message – sharply at odds with Biden’s safety first pro-lockdown stance – is beginning to resonate with people fed up with the restrictions on their lives, especially those in Democrat-run states whose kids are still not back at school due to teacher union pressures.”
Even conservative media in the U.K. doesn’t get Trump because of his bombastic personality and that he is hardly a policy detail guy, both of which seem to disregard his many accomplishments domestically and internationally. Back in September 2016 when the corporate media convinced itself that Hillary Clinton on the way to becoming the next president, journalist Selena Zito aptly observed that “the press takes [Trump] literally, but not seriously; his supporters take him seriously, but not literally.”
