President Donald Trump is vilified in the media for taking a stand for law and order over the lawlessness seen in many American cities, but the respect and admiration the president enjoys from law enforcement is a testament to how police officers feel about that stance.

Then again, given how they too are vilified by the liberal media, police officers have a lot in common with Trump.

A retiring police officer who tweets under the name Joel shared video footage of an encounter he had with Trump on an airport tarmac, where he gives the president his flat badge.

“I had the honor of closing out my career as a police officer by gifting my flat badge to [Trump] for his unwavering support of law enforcement throughout his presidency,” the caption read.

“Can I give this to you, sir?” he asked. “I’m retiring in 12 days and my last act as a police officer, sir, is that I want to give you this on behalf of all the men and women who wear the badge who have your back because you have ours.”

The man in the video appears to be wearing a uniform, and President Trump was clearly moved by his gesture.

“You’ve got to be kidding me,” Trump said at one point, before signaling to an aide to take the badge.

In a follow up tweet, Joel commented on the response to the video.

“I am overwhelmed at the response to this video! Thank you to all the officers that reached out to me with your stamp of approval regarding my message [Trump] and thank you to everyone who shared such kind words! I will do my best to catch up on the messages tomorrow,” he tweeted.

In responding to a social media user, Joel called the moment “powerful,” and agreed that it “touched” the president.

President Trump was endorsed last month by the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP), the nation’s largest police union.

On Monday, as early voting got under way in Florida, a uniformed police officer with the Miami Police Department showed his support for the president by wearing a pro-Trump mask at a voting site.

Naturally, the left was aghast, accusing the city of voter intimidation.

Chief of Police Jorge Colina said Officer Daniel Ubeda’s behavior was “unacceptable and “a violation of departmental policy.”

“He is under investigation and disciplinary measures will be taken,” Suarez said.

Here’s a sampling of responses to the retiring officer turning over his badge from Twitter:
