Two days after bombshell allegations surrounding him and his son Hunter Biden were published by the New York Post, Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden was finally asked to respond to them on Friday.
But instead of providing answers, Barack Obama’s vice president angrily dismissed them while denouncing the report as a baseless “smear campaign.”
“Mr. Biden, what is your response to the New York Post story about your son, sir?” CBS News reported Bo Erickson asked the former VP and long-serving senator from Delaware as he spoke to reporters outside his private jet following campaign events in Michigan.
Instead of responding, however, Biden attacked Erickson.
“I know you’d ask it,” he shot back. “I have no response, it’s another smear campaign, right up your alley, those are the questions you always ask.”

Though the Post report broke a day earlier, ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos failed to ask Biden about its allegations on Thursday when he hosted a town hall event featuring the Democratic presidential contender.
The Biden campaign already dismissed the initial report, saying that Joe Biden “carried out official U.S. policy toward Ukraine and engaged in no wrongdoing,” adding that “Trump administration officials have attested to these facts under oath.”
But that reply doesn’t address previous statements made by the vice president or implications contained in the Post’s original report or follow-up reporting.
Initially, the Post reported on some of the contents of emails and other materials discovered on a MacBook Pro laptop allegedly left by Hunter Biden at a computer repair shop in Delaware last year.
After Hunter failed to return to pay for the repairs and pick up the computer, the shop owner, John Paul Mac Isaac, claimed ownership under the terms of the repair agreement. As he was transferring data from the laptop, he came across some disturbing materials, including pornography featuring the vice president’s son, and drug use — as well as incriminating emails.
Initially, the Post reported that an email recovered from the laptop indicates that Hunter Biden introduced his dad, then-Vice President Joe Biden, to a top executive at Ukrainian energy company Burisma less than a year before the VP threatened to withhold U.S. aid if government officials in Kyiv refused to terminate a top prosecutor who was currently investigating the firm for corruption.
At the time of Joe Biden’s threat, Hunter Biden was a board member at Ukraine pulling down a reported $50,000 a month. The prosecutor, Viktor Shokin, was indeed fired before Joe Biden got back on Air Force Two to return to the U.S. from Ukraine, according to a version of the story he told during a Council on Foreign Relations even in 2018.
In an April 17, 2015 email sent about a year after Hunter Biden joined Burisma’s board, Vadym Pozharskyi, an adviser to Burisma’s board of directors, expressed appreciation for being introduced to Joe Biden.
“Dear Hunter, thank you for inviting me to DC and giving an opportunity to meet your father and spent [sic] some time together. It’s realty [sic] an honor and pleasure,” the email says, according to the Post.
In an earlier May 2014 email from Pozharskyi, he asks Hunter Biden for any “advice on how you could use your influence” to help the energy firm.
Additional emails detailed in a follow-up Post report indicate that Hunter Biden and other family members were involved in lucrative deals with Chinese firms, some of them with ties to the Communist government.

According to a Senate investigative report released last month by Sens. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) and Charles Grassley (R-Iowa), the Chinese business dealings by Hunter Biden and associates of his raised red flags with U.S. agencies and American banks.
The year-long probe found evidence that Hunter Biden’s business deals during his father’s vice presidency were concerning to U.S. officials who believed the activities represented ethics problems as well as conflicts of interest including potential criminal activity including bribery and sex trafficking.
As for the Post’s reporting, presidential lawyer Rudy Giuliani, who provided a copy of the hard drive to the outlet, said during a Newsmax TV interview this week that the paper has only published “about five percent” of incriminating emails and other materials regarding the Biden family.
“The New York Post has at least two more situations even more serious than this. The real big-time money corruption takes place with the Chinese Communist Party,” he said.
