For the Democratic Party’s radical left-wing base, there is zero room for compromise or civility with the other side.
Look no further than the reaction to Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., for her friendly gesture towards Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., after the Senate Judiciary Committee chairman closed out the fourth and final day of testimony in Judge Amy Coney Barrett’s Supreme Court confirmation hearing.
Progressives were so outraged over a few kind words and a hug that they called for the ranking member of the Judiciary panel to step down.
“Mr. Chairman, I just want to thank you. This has been one of the best set of hearings that I’ve participated in and I want to thank you for your fairness and the opportunity of going back and forth,” Feinstein told Graham. “It leaves one with a lot of hopes, a lot of questions and even some ideas — perhaps some good bipartisan legislation we can put together to make this great country even better.”

“Thank you so much for your leadership,” she added, following up her remarks with a friendly embrace of her Republican colleague.
Graham, who turned red in the face while admonishing Senate Democrats in 2018 for their behavior during the Brett Kavanaugh confirmation hearings, replied, “You are a joy to work with.”
Demand Justice, a left-wing group looking to reshape the Supreme Court, threw a fit, insisting that she surrender her leadership role on the panel, as did the organization’s executive director Brian Fallon, who was press secretary for Hillary Clinton in 2016.

And that was just the beginning of the backlash for “the hug that broke the camel’s back.”
But then, considering that Graham was successful in setting up a committee vote to advance the nomination of Barrett on Oct. 22, which all but assures her confirmation to the Supreme Court by the end of the month, the outcry may little more than the left venting their frustrations.
