Most voters are blaming House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, not President Donald Trump and congressional Republicans, for the lack of a new deal to provide more financial relief to Americans in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

A YouGov survey conducted Oct. 9-11 among 1,525 registered voters found that 43 percent of respondents blamed the California Democrat for the failure to reach a new deal, while 40 percent blamed the president. Seventeen percent said they were unsure.

Among white respondents, 49 percent blamed Pelosi while just over one-third — 34 percent — said the blame rested with the president. Meanwhile, 70 percent of blacks blamed Trump while 17 percent blamed the Speaker.

In an interview with CNN host Wolf Blitzer on Tuesday, Pelosi experienced a near melt-down when he asked why she would not accept a $1.8 trillion package offered by the White House.

“Many Americans are waiting in food lines for the first time in their lives. Can you look them in the eye and explain why you don’t want to accept the President’s latest stimulus offer? They really need the money right now…Even members of your own caucus want to accept this deal, $1.8 trillion,” Blitzer said.

After explaining that the package wasn’t large enough, she turned on the CNN host.

“I don’t know why you’re always an apologist — and many of your [CNN] colleagues are apologists — for the Republican position,” Pelosi scolded. “With all due respect, and we’ve known each other a long time, you really don’t know what you’re talking about.”

CNN is a lot of things to millions of Americans, but being routinely deferential to the GOP and President Trump isn’t one of them.

Pelosi’s tirade began after Blitzer reminded her that members of her own party, including fellow Democratic California Rep. Ro Khanna and former Democratic presidential candidate Andrew Yang have urged Pelosi to make the deal.

On Oct. 11, Khanna tweeted that $1.8 trillion “is significant & more than twice [the] Obama stimulus.”

“People in need can’t wait until February. 1.8 trillion is significant & more than twice Obama stimulus. It will allow Biden to start with infrastructure. Obama won in 08 by doing the right thing on TARP instead of what was expedient. Make a deal & put the ball in McConnell court,” he wrote.

“Nancy Pelosi take this deal!  Put politics aside people are hurting,” Yang tweeted a day earlier.

Pelosi also claimed those two didn’t know what they were saying.

“Ro Khanna, that’s nice. But that isn’t what we’re going to do. Andrew Yang is lovely. Ro Khanna is lovely. They are not negotiating this situation. They have no idea of the particulars. They have no idea of what the language is here,” she said.

“What’s wrong with $1.8 trillion dollars?” Blitzer responded while Pelosi again resorted to her “apologist” accusation.

“I’m asking you serious questions because so many people are in serious issue right now,” Blitzer said.

President Donald Trump has said he would quickly sign a bill that only provides economic relief to Americans and businesses — not one stuffed with Democrat political priorities such as nationalizing mail-in balloting, which is what Pelosi’s bill does.
