A video released by Daily Caller reporter David Hookstead purports to show police officers in Wisconsin beating two of his colleagues, DCNF reporters Shelby Talcott and Richie McGinness.

The two “were both beaten Thursday night in Wauwatosa by law enforcement,” wrote Hookstead. “In the video, you can hear the attack begin. It’s a sickening situation.”

“Members of the press (including Richie and Shelby) can be seen being thrown on the ground and ripped out of a vehicle by law enforcement. It’s hard to tell if this is China or America,” Hookstead added, referencing additional video taken by WISN 12 News reporter Caroline Reinwald.

In the video, both reporters repeatedly inform officers they are members of the press and, specifically, with The Daily Caller, but to no avail. Police slammed them to the ground and placed them in handcuffs.

Hookstead also tweeted a photo of McGinniss, who received a head abrasion.

“We’re now at the point where journalists are not just detained and arrested, but now beaten by police for reasons that seem impossible to justify,” he added.

“Lastly, journalists have the resources and platform to do something about police abuse, and the cops still beat @ShelbyTalcott and @RichieMcGinniss. What would the same officers done to someone with no money, platform or resources? That’s a scary question to answer,” Hookstead noted further.

In tweets of her own, Reinwald confirmed the Daily Caller arrests, adding that no National Guard troops were involved.

“Members of the media @DailyCaller say they are the ones in the video being arrested – not protesters. You can actually hear one of them say at one point they are media. Working to confirm why they were arrested and which organization is making the arrests,” she wrote.

“The National Guard confirmed with our newsroom today this is not them making arrests and says it did not make any arrests last night. I have reached out to Wauwatosa Police to check if they are the arresting agency,” she added.

It’s not clear why the journalists were arrested, though it could have been due to a curfew imposed by city officials after violent protests erupted this week when no charges were filed against Officer Joseph Mensah in the shooting death of 17-year-old Alvin Cole, both of whom are black.

Mensah has been involved in three officer-related killings over a span of five years. He was suspended from the department following the shooting death of Cole in February.

“In this case, there is sufficient evidence that Officer Mensah had an actual subjective belief that deadly force was necessary, and that belief was objectively reasonable,” Milwaukee County District Attorney John Chisholm said Wednesday.

“I do not believe that the State could disprove self-defense or defense of others in this case, and therefore, could not meet the burden required to charge Officer Mensah,” he added, according to Fox6.

“Mr. Cole went to Mayfair Mall armed with a 9mm” handgun that was stolen, said Chisholm. “He had a confrontation with a patron. While he was running from them, he discharged the firearm, and from that point on, he was ordered to surrender the firearm and never did so.”

An investigation found that Cole suffered a self-inflicted wound to his left arm while running, stop, knelt, then pointed the handgun at two pursuing officers, one of them Mensah.

Officers arrested 24 people in Wauwatosa Thursday, Fox6 reported separately. Democratic Gov. Tony Evers activated National Guard units to assist police in suppressing the violence.
