President Donald Trump announced late Wednesday afternoon from the White House that he’d like every American to benefit from the same medications and treatment that were offered to him after he was diagnosed with the coronavirus last week.

“I walked in, I didn’t feel good. A short 24 hours later, I was feeling great, I wanted to get out of the hospital, and that’s what I want for everybody. I want everybody to be given the same treatment as your president because I feel great,” he said.

During the 5-minute-long message that was made via a Twitter video, the president pointed to two specific treatments: one by Regeneron, and another by Eli Lilly.

“I spent four days there, and I went in and I wasn’t feeling so hot, and within a very short period of time, they gave me Regeneron. It’s called Regeneron, and other things too. But I think this was the key. But they gave me Regeneron, and it was like, unbelievable. I felt good immediately. I felt as good three days ago as I do now,” he said.

“So I just want to say, we have Regeneron. We have a very similar drug from Eli Lilly, and they’re coming out, and we’re trying to get them on an emergency basis. We’ve authorized it. I’ve authorized it.”

Listen to the president’s announcement below:

As of Thursday, the treatments hadn’t yet been officially authorized and were awaiting emergency-use authorization from federal regulators.

“If you’re in the hospital and you’re feeling really bad, I think we’re going to work it so that you get them and you’re going to get them free, and especially if you’re a senior, we’re going to get you in there quick. We have hundreds of thousands of doses that are just about ready,” the president added.

This appears to be accurate. In a statement to its website posted late Wednesday, Regeneron confirmed that it’s reached out to federal regulators and urged them to provide authorization so that it may begin providing its treatment to the public “at no cost.”

“Under our agreement with the U.S. government for the initial doses of REGN-COV2, if an EUA is granted the government has committed to making these doses available to the American people at no cost and would be responsible for their distribution,” the statement reads.

“At this time, there are doses available for approximately 50,000 patients, and we expect to have doses available for 300,000 patients in total within the next few months.”

Eli Lilly has reportedly also reached out to federal regulators to obtain emergency-use authorization for LY-CoV555. The company also plans to seek authorization for yet another treatment, LY-CoV016 (which works when combined with LY-CoV555), next month.

“Eli Lilly said it has submitted a request seeking the FDA’s approval for LY-CoV555 and said it plans to submit a request for the combination treatment in November,” CNBC confirmed.

“The company said it could supply 100,000 doses of LY-CoV555 in October and 50,000 doses of the combination therapy by the fourth quarter this year.”

Continuing his announcement Wednesday, the president called his own coronavirus diagnosis “a blessing from God” given as it had caused him to be exposed to Regeneron and Eli Lilly’s potentially life-saving treatments.

“So I think this was a blessing from God that I caught it. This was a blessing in disguise. I caught it. I heard about this drug. I said, ‘Let me take it.’ It was my suggestion. I said, ‘Let me take it,’ and it was incredible the way it worked. Incredible. I think if I didn’t catch it, we’d be looking at that like a number of other drugs, but it really did a fantastic job.”

Trump then addressed upcoming potential vaccines for the coronavirus but warned that because of politics, they’re unlikely to be released to the public before the November election.

“But on the vaccines, we have many companies that are in final stages for the vaccines. Johnson & Johnson. Moderna. Pfizer. All great companies, but many of them, and we’re going to have a great vaccine very, very shortly,” he said.

“I think we should have it before the election, but frankly, the politics gets involved and that’s okay, they want to play their games. It’s going to be right after the election, but we did it. Nobody else, nobody else would have been able to do it.”

He concluded his remarks by reiterating that all these treatments will be provided to the public for “free” courtesy, hopefully, of China.

“I want to get for you what I got, and I’m going to make it free. You’re not going to pay for it. It wasn’t your fault that this happened. It was China’s fault, and China is going to pay a big price for what they’ve done to this country. China is going to pay a big price for what they’ve done to the world. This was China’s fault, and just remember that,” he said.

“So we’re going to get you the drug. It’s going to be free. We’re going to get it into the hospitals as soon as you can, as soon as we can. And you’ll see some amazing things happen because we have … our military is doing the distribution. It’s called logistics, and they deliver, hundreds of thousands of troops in a matter of days. This is easy stuff for them.”
