The balance of the U.S. Senate will be just as critical a result of the November election as who is elected president, and the state of North Carolina could play a pivotal role in deciding which party prevails.
On that note, it should come as no surprise that the major news networks have shown ZERO interest in covering the bombshell controversy over the Democratic candidate’s extramarital dalliance.
Democrat Cal Cunningham’s campaign essentially confirmed on Tuesday that he had an intimate relationship with Arlene Guzman Todd, a public relations strategist from California, who is also married.
Cunningham, 47, pulled out of a town hall event Monday, hours after Guzman Todd told the Associated Press that she and Cunningham had an “intimate encounter” in July, Fox News reported.
In text messages to a friend, which were obtained by the AP, Guzman Todd said she was intimate with Cunningham in his home, which she later characterized as “weird.”
In another text, she expressed frustration over a lack of attention from Cunningham.
“I’m just going to send to his opponent his naked photos,” Guzman Todd wrote. “That will teach him.”
She understood that knowledge of their affirm would be harmful to Cunningham, as seen in a text that read: “He knows (that I) can tank his campaign.”
Cunningham’s campaign confirmed that the series of text messages were authentic.
Yet, ABC, CBS, and NBC skipped the Democrat’s controversy in both their morning and evening news programs, according to Fox News.
It comes as no surprise that CNN and MSNBC also ignored the story — after all, the networks are all but an extension of the Democratic Party campaign apparatus.
However, when Sen. Thom Tillis, R-N.C., who is Cunningham’s opponent, disclosed on Friday that he tested positive for COVID-19, CNN and MSNBC were all over that story.
Tillis, a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, which will take up Judge Amy Coney Barrett’s nomination, has been in a tight race for reelection and recent polls showed Cunningham with a narrow lead.
Guzman Todd released a statement that apologized for the “pain and embarrassment, and disrespect I’ve caused to my immediate family, loved ones, and everyone affected by this situation.”
“A few months back, I displayed a lapse in judgment by engaging in a relationship with Cal Cunningham during a period of marital separation,” she added. “The relationship spanned several months and consisted primarily of a series of text exchanges and an in-person encounter.”
Cunningham was seen as a star recruit for Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, according to WTVD.
He’s a veteran and a lieutenant colonel in the Army Reserve, and “had an aw-shucks style that matched effectively against Tillis,” the ABC affiliate reported.
“He had this clean-cut image with a great story, a great background, an impeccable record of service,” Democratic consultant Brad Crone told WTVD. “He was straight out of central casting.”
The trouble is, Hollywood is infamous for its scandalous moral standards.
As for the media, while the liberal elitists who make up much of the industry swear they are even handed, their bias is sometimes more apparent in what they decide not to cover than it is when they favor one side over the other.
