In an update delivered around noon Sunday afternoon, Dr. Brian Garibaldi, a member of President Donald Trump’s medical team, said the president might be discharged from the hospital as early as Monday.
Garibaldi offered this stunning good news as he discussed the president’s health.
“Today, he has been up and around, and our plan is to have him eat and drink and be up out of bed as much as possible. And if he continues to look and feel as well as he does today, our hope is that we plan for discharge as early as tomorrow to the White House where he can continue his treatment course,” he said.
But the president’s diagnosis hasn’t always been so good, according to Physician to the President Dr. Sean Conley.
Speaking at Sunday’s conference, he admitted that though the president had been “doing well” late Thursday, around the time that he’d announced his diagnosis, by late Friday morning he “had a high fever, and his oxygen saturation was dipping below 94 percent.”
As a result, at the time Conley recommended the president try a brief burst of oxygen.
“Given these developments, I was concerned for possible rapid progression of the illness. I recommended that we try some supplemental oxygen to see how he would respond. He was adamant that he didn’t need it, he was not short of breath. He was tired and had the fever, and that was about it,” Conley explained.
“After about a minute, his saturation levels were back over 95 percent. He stayed on that for about one hour maybe, and it was off and gone. Later that day, when the team was at the bedside, the president had been out of bed and moving about with only mild symptoms.”
Despite the president already feeling better by that time, his medical team agreed that “the best course of action” moving forward “was to move to Walter Reed for more thorough evaluation and monitoring,” according to Conley.

Concerns over the president’s oxygen levels and breathing wound up blowing up into a big scandal/controversy Saturday because of speculation by the media.
Rather than just trust the doctors handling Trump’s care, members of the media began speculating about his health and trotting out claims from anonymous sources.
One of the first to partake in this was CNN chief White House correspondent Jim Acosta, who claimed Friday evening without evidence that “the president has been having some trouble breathing.”
This claim was never substantiated. In an update Saturday, the president’s medical team said he was “not having difficulty breathing or walking around.” And in his update Sunday, Conley said that even when the president’s oxygen level briefly dipped, “he was not short of breath.”
After the doctor’s Saturday report, the media then began claiming via another anonymous source (later outed as White House chief of staff Mark Meadows) that the president’s vitals were “very concerning.”
This rumor began to trend after the Saturday briefing in which Conley and his fellow team members all described the president’s health as “exceptionally good.”
Contrary to the media’s reporting, the president also hasn’t had a fever since Friday morning.
“The patient continues to improve. He has remained without fever since Friday morning. His vital signs are stable, from a pulmonary standpoint,” Walter Reed Medical Center pulmonologist Dr. Sean Dooley said during the presser Sunday.
“He remains on room air this morning and is not complaining of shortness of breath or other respiratory symptoms. He is ambulating himself without limitation or disability.”
The only speculation that’s been correct is the media’s speculation about Trump having to receive oxygen. During Saturday’s briefing, multiple reporters harangued Conley about the matter, but the doctor kept his answers vague.
When asked during Sunday’s presser about his previous lack of clarity, he said he’d just been trying to keep things positive.
“I was trying to reflect the upbeat attitude that the team and the president has had over the course of illness. I did not want to give any information that might steer the course of illness in another direction,” he said.
“In doing so, it came off that we were trying to hide something, which was not true. The fact of the matter is he is doing really well. He is responding and as the team said, if everything continues well, we will discharge him back to the white house.”
Overall, the news is and remains good, though the media continues to play the speculation game and trot out anonymously sourced claims.

What happens if @realDonaldTrump‘s health deteriorates? Or if POTUS disagrees with those who might invoke the #25thAmendment to transfer power to the @VP? Media: @Acosta to @jaketapper on the @realDonaldTrump condition briefings: “We were lied to about the president’s health on Friday, we were lied to about his health yesterday. It’s not clear why the media can’t just stop nagging and stick to reporting the known facts, all of which are, for the time being, good.
