With millions of Americans concerned about the health of President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump after the president announced early Friday the first couple has tested positive for COVID-19, Dr. Scott Atlas assured the nation that “there is zero reason to panic.”
A special adviser on coronavirus to President Trump, Atlas said Friday morning in an exclusive interview with Fox News that he expects the president and first lady to make a “complete, full and rapid recovery.”
Atlas, who is not the president’s personal physician, told Fox News the coronavirus is an infection “that is very difficult to avoid.”
“It is no surprise that people get the infection, even with precautions,” he explained. “I anticipate a complete and full and rapid recovery back to normal after his necessary confinement period. I anticipate he’ll be back on the road and in full swing.”
The president’s physician, Navy Cmdr. Dr. Sean Conley, said in a statement that he received confirmation of the positive tests on Thursday evening.
“This evening I received confirmation that both President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump have tested positive for the SARS-coV-2- virus,” Conley said. “The President and First Lady are both well at this time, and they plan to remain at home within the White House during their convalescence.”
“The White House medical team and I will maintain a vigilant watch, and I appreciate the support provided by some of our country’s greatest medical professionals and institutions,” he added.
While many in the media talked about how unhealthy Trump is, with some outlets quick to call him “obese,” Atlas has the opposite assessment.
Calling the 74-year-old president a “super vigorous man,” he said he has “never seen anyone with more energy and more vigor, at any age, but particularly at his age.”
“He is a very, very healthy guy,” Atlas insisted. “And the overwhelming majority of people, even at his age, do fine with this. He is very healthy, and so I anticipate the same for him.”
As for the first lady, Atlas said Melania Trump “is not a high-risk person at all and I anticipate she will do perfectly well.”
Mrs. Trump let it be known in a tweet that “we are feeling good,” telling the nation that “we will all get through this together.”
As too many Americans have done this year, @potus & I are quarantining at home after testing positive for COVID-19. We are feeling good & I have postponed all upcoming engagements. Please be sure you are staying safe & we will all get through this together.

Hope Hicks, one of the president’s closest advisors, tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday.
Prior to announcing his own test results. Trump said in a tweet that he and his wife would be going into quarantine.
Hope Hicks, who has been working so hard without even taking a small break, has just tested positive for Covid 19. Terrible! The First Lady and I are waiting for our test results. In the meantime, we will begin our quarantine process!

Atlas said the coronavirus “is a widespread, highly contagious infection,” and people will get it, but stressed that the survival rate is high.
“This is going to be very mild or asymptomatic for the overwhelming majority of people, especially if you’re a healthy person,” he explained. “And if you can, do your best at the usual mitigation — hand washing, social distancing, the usual masks, if you are in very tight spaces and you cannot socially distance, or are with high-risk family members.”
“There is zero reason to panic,” Atlas said. “There is nothing different here. The president and his wife are human beings.”
