As House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin continue 11th-hour talks on a new COVID-19 relief measure, Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy said Wednesday the latest bill offered by Democrats is the same as previous legislation with one major change.
The new bill cuts $600 million in funding for local police departments.

In an interview with Fox Business Network’s Lou Dobbs, the two discussed the latest relief measure, which spends about $2.2 trillion instead of more than $3 trillion, as Democrats have demanded for weeks.
“What has to happen here for the Democrats to understand where [President Donald Trump] truly is” in regard to what he’s willing to sign, Dobbs asked.
“Well, the real difficulty here is that Speaker Pelosi has been holding up our ability to have relief for COVID for small business, the PPE program that helps those employees,” the minority leader, also from California, began.
“Remember, it was Speaker Pelosi who let us all go home in August and then called us back” for an “emergency” the “Post Office never had,” he continued, adding that Republicans put a relief bill up but Democrats refused to pass it.
“I know you say that bill is 2.2 trillion, but when you read the fine lines, it’s really 2.6 trillion. And it’s the same bill that they passed just a while ago that was dead,” McCarthy said.
“It mentions marijuana more than it mentions jobs. It still pays illegals. It still funds illegals. It releases prisoners from jail. But you know what it does in the new plan? The only difference is, she cuts funding to police. In the first bill that they passed, it had 600 million for police. In her new bill, she has no funding for police,” he added.
Dobbs went on to say it is strange to him that Democrats appear to have embraced “a strategy of violence in our streets” as well as left-wing groups like Antifa and Black Lives Matter, to include a movement to defund local police departments.
“That’s suicidal, politically,” said Dobbs. “What is going on…with the party of hate, the Democrat Party?”
“Remember, Joe Biden said he is the Democrat Party, so he owns all of this,” McCarthy responded.
The latest "stimulus package" that Nancy Pelosi has been scheming is the same liberal wishlist that Democrats jammed through in May.
The only difference is that in this one, she cuts funding for police by $600 million.

Following McCarthy, Mnuchin told Dobbs that GOP and Democrat negotiators had agreed to include another round of direct payments to Americans in the next stimulus package, saying they will be “similar” to those distributed earlier this year as part of the CARES Act.
Those were valued at $1,200 per adult for Americans with adjusted gross incomes of up to $75,000, with the threshold for married couples being $150,000.
Democrats postponed a vote on the $2.2 trillion package after it became clear that Senate Republicans were not going to go along. While Democrats have been pushing for a $3 trillion package, Republicans were pushing a $1 trillion stimulus, though Trump has instructed his party to come up from that figure to the “neighborhood” of $1.5 trillion.
Mnuchin also said he didn’t expect any progress on negotiations until Thursday at the earlier.
Meanwhile, President Trump signed a measure to fund the government through Dec. 11, thus avoiding a shutdown when the new fiscal year began Thursday.
