Gearing up for a press conference, Pennsylvania’s Democrat governor and a state lawmaker were apparently caught on a hot mic joking about “political theater” seemingly in the context of wearing a face mask.

By executive order, face masks are mandatory outside when social distancing is not possible as well as indoors in most scenarios in the Keystone State.

In a brief video clip that has nearly 1 million views as of this writing on just one Twitter feed (among the many) that shared it, Gov. Tom Wolf purportedly tells State Rep. Wendy Ullman that “So Wendy, I’m gonna take — I’m gonna take my mask off when I speak,”

Ullman replies that “I will as well, just, I’m waiting so that we can do a little political theater…so that it’s on camera.”

Watch the clip below and draw your own conclusions:

In response to the resulting controversy, Rep. Ullman told the Bucks County Courier Times in a statement that “While ‘political theatre’ may not have been the best turn of phrase, I’m not going to apologize for wearing a mask.”

“As an elected official, I’m going to continue to use my platform to model good behavior that we know helps prevent the spread of the virus and work to bring relief to the hundreds of thousands that have been impacted by COVID-19,” she added.

Lyndsay Kensinger, Wolf’s press secretary, also chimed in, the same news outlet reported.

“This is an out-of-context clip being pushed by an extreme fringe that believes COVID-19 is a hoax.”

“Unlike many of her colleagues on the other side of the aisle, (Ullman) leads by example to protect others by wearing a mask, and her constituents are fortunate to have her protecting them in Harrisburg.”

Wolf and Ullman convened the press conference in Doylestown, Pa., to lament over the possibility that the U.S. Supreme Court might rule that what’s left of Obamacare is unconstitutional.

Evidently, the Democrats in the U.S. Senate also plan to push that narrative in the upcoming confirmation hearings for Judge Amy Coney Barrett, President Trump’s nominee to the high court.

Separately, a federal judge has declined to put on hold an earlier decision that of some of Wolf’s COVID-19 pandemic restrictions were unconstitutional while Wolf appeals to a higher court.

The video clip prompted a huge response on Twitter, including one from Ric Grenell, the president’s ex-acting national intelligence director. Here is just a sample:
