CIA Director Gina Haspel is blocking the declassification of crucial documents related to the Obama-era ‘Russian collusion’ probe of President Donald Trump’s 2016 campaign, according to a Wednesday report.
The Federalist co-founder Sean Davis made the claim during an interview with Fox News’ Tucker Carlson, noting further that it has been difficult to get other documents and information pertaining to the FBI’s 2016 counterintelligence probe declassified.
“I can report here tonight that these declassifications that have come out, those weren’t easy to get out and there’s in fact far more waiting to get out,” Davis said.
“Unfortunately, those releases and declassifications, according to multiple sources I’ve talked to, are being blocked by CIA Director Gina Haspel, who herself was the main link between Washington and London as the London station chief for John Brennan’s CIA during the 2016 election,” he added.
In a letter to Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Lindsey Graham earlier this week, Director of National Intelligence John Ratcliffe said U.S. intelligence agencies obtained information in late July 2016 that then-Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton was behind the creation of the ‘Russian collusion’ narrative.
Ratcliffe wrote that Clinton “had approved a plan to stir up a scandal against U.S. Presidential candidate Donald Trump by tying him to [Russian President Vladimir] Putin and the Russians’ hacking of the Democratic National Committee,” adding that the intelligence community “does not know the accuracy of this allegation of the extent to which the Russian intelligence analysis may reflect exaggeration or fabrication.”
He added that according to Brennan’s own handwritten notes, he “subsequently briefed President Obama and other senior national security officials” about the intelligence, “including the ‘alleged approval by Hillary Clinton on July 26, 2016 of a proposal from one of her foreign policy advisors to vilify Donald Trump by stirring up a scandal claiming interference by Russian security services.’”
The plan was devised as a means of taking attention away from her own scandal involving the mishandling of classified emails, a felony. The alleged plot was so concerning to U.S. intelligence officials they referred it to the FBI for investigation, though former Director James Comey, who headed the bureau at the time, said during testimony before Graham’s committee Wednesday he didn’t recall the referral, Carlson noted.
In his interview with Carlson, Davis noted that on Wednesday “we learned that it wasn’t the Trump campaign who had colluded with Russian spies to interfere in the 2016 election, we learned that it was actually Hillary Clinton’s campaign.”
“The Russians knew what she was doing, the FBI knew that they knew,” he continued, noting that Comey was briefed on the referral and informed that “a Russian spy had infiltrated” former British spy Christopher Steele’s network and planted false information, which he then fashioned into the infamous dossier — which the Clinton campaign helped finance.
“This isn’t just a scandal of Democrat projection, this is a scandal about what was a coup planned against the incoming administration at the highest levels,” Davis said.
“Recall it was London where Christopher Steele was doing all this work,” Davis continued. “And I’m told that it is Gina Haspel personally who’s blocking continued declassification of these documents that will show the American people the truth of what actually happened.”
Carlson noted that the government’s intelligence agencies have long blocked information from the public, referencing the assassination of President John F. Kennedy in 1963.
“Why doesn’t somebody — anyone in power can do this — stand up and say, ‘No, these are going public now’?” Carlson asked.
Davis responded by suggesting that top officials within the intelligence community who are blocking the release of documents “are likely implicated by them.”
“I think at this point we need the president, Donald Trump, to step in and say no more obstruction, no more blocking. We need transparency, the American people need the truth, and that means declassifying everything and letting everyone see everything about what happened, so we can decide for ourselves before we vote in this election,” said Davis.
