For someone who said beforehand that he was not going to make the debate about himself, Fox News moderator Chris Wallace found himself right in the middle of the fray throughout the night, often siding against President Donald Trump.

To be fair, the first presidential debate was a train wreck, with the president proving yet again that, first and foremost, he is a brawler, an outsider taking on the political establishment so firmly entrenched in Washington, D.C.

From the perspective of the Trump campaign, their candidate “turned in the greatest debate performance in presidential history” against “weak” Democratic nominee Joe Biden, but Trump was quick to go after Wallace after the debate.

Taking to Twitter, Trump shared a meme suggesting it was a two-on-one contest.

Trump said at one point during the debate, as Wallace mischaracterized his health care plan, “I guess I’m debating you, not him.”

Wallace was quick to interrupt Trump and remind him of the debate rules — the president was very assertive at times while himself interrupting Biden — and the Fox News host’s frustration became more evident as the night went on.

The following analogy is by no means a scientific study, but it was clear that Wallace was very one-sided with his interruptions.

Hell, even “Fox & Friends” co-host Brian Kilmeade could see the obvious.

But the interruptions paled to some other egregious actions by Wallace, who selected the debate topics.

Remarkably, he referenced Trump’s response to the violence in Charlottesville three years ago, mentioning the infamous comment about “very fine people on both sides” without offering any context — Trump was talking about the debate over statues.

Wallace went so far as to ask Trump to denounce “white supremacy,” and described critical race theory as “racialsensitivity training,” an almost criminal characterization when considering the toxic far left ideology teaches that America is a racist nation and white people are inherently racist. All white people.

President Trump was accurate in saying it was “racist” teaching.

And the determination Wallace exhibited in not allowing Trump to bring up Hunter Biden and the recent report that Biden’s son allegedly received $3.5  million dollars from the wife of the mayor of Moscow was something to see.

Wallace sat silent when Biden resorted to name calling, as the Democratic nominee called Trump a “racist” and a “clown,” even telling him at one point to “shut up.”

Donald Trump Jr. appeared on Fox News’ “Hannity” after the debate and took a shot at the moderator.

“We knew that was coming anyway with a Chris Wallace,” the president’s eldest son said. “I understand he’s a Fox guy, but he’s no conservative and he’s no centrist either. That’s sort of the nature of this game and I think that’s why my father has to play it that way, he’s got to combat that because is not just fighting conservative ideas versus liberal ideas.

“He’s taking on a multibillion-dollar mainstream complex,” Trump Jr. continued. “Joe Biden can hide in the basement, he doesn’t have to do campaign rallies, the media will do that for him.”

The irony here is that Wallace said up front that he was going to try to be “as invisible as possible” — his own colleagues at the network, Brett Baier and Martha MacCallum, scoffed at the suggestion.

Here’s a quick sampling of some of the responses from Twitter on Wallace’s debate performance:
