ABC’s “The View” shared the “excited” news that co-host Meghan McCain and her husband, Ben Domenech, welcome their first baby girl to the world this week.

Like most things when it comes to the woman whose claim to fame is that she’s the daughter of the late Sen. John McCain, there was controversy over the name chosen for the child.

If you were like many who did not know that McCain was pregnant, she said back in August on Instagram Story she was “not sharing pics of my baby bump — there are a lot of cruel things written about me in the press on an almost constant/daily basis.”

“Normally I just let it go because it comes with the territory of being an outspoken conservative woman on TV — but I’ve felt intensely protective and private over this time in my life and the privacy of my child,” she continued.

As for the child’s name, it’s a mouthful: Liberty Sage McCain Domenech.

McCain married Domenech, a conservative writer and commentator, in July 2017, but continues to use her maiden name.

Not surprisingly, given her anti-Trump demeanor, McCain attributed her marriage to President Trump and the threat of “nuclear war.”

“We moved in very quickly. I have this theory that Trump’s America makes everything more intense and heightened, because we’re always talking about the threat of nuclear war and we want to be nurtured by each other,” she said on the show in 2018.

“For real, I would not have gotten together with my husband if Trump didn’t become the nominee and weren’t running for president. A hundred percent,” McCain said.

“At the [Republican National Convention] when he accepted the nomination, I cried and cried and cried to [Domenech] in an SUV back to our hotel room, and he got me P.F. Chang’s and I thought, maybe I can marry this guy,” she added.

ABC shared that “both the mother and baby Liberty are healthy and doing well.”

There was another announcement of sorts this week from the McCain family.

It was reported Monday that Meghan’s mother, Cindy McCain, the widow of the late Sen. McCain, joined the advisory board of Democratic nominee Joe Biden’s transition team, should he be elected president.

Cindy McCain, worth an estimated $200 million, endorsed Biden last week, calling the 77-year-old former vice president a “good and honest man.”

As for the new baby’s name, you knew social media was going to weigh in, as toxic as the medium can be. Opinions were pro and con, including a far-reaching claim that the name had racist overtones.
