Former heavyweight champ Mike Tyson took to Twitter to announce that he will be voting in 2020, and that this will be the first vote of his life.

Tyson cited his felony record to say he never thought he could vote, but last year, his home state of Nevada passed a law that automatically restores voting rights to felons released from prison.

In posting his remarks, Tyson included a link to go to where unregistered voters can sign up to vote.

“This election will be my 1st time voting. I never thought I could because of my felony record. I’m proud to finally vote,” he tweeted.

For what it’s worth, Tyson didn’t reveal if he will vote for President Donald Trump or Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden.

On that note, he clearly backed Trump in 2016.

“He should be president of the United States,” Tyson said at the time. “That’s what he should be… Why are people mad at the people? Because this is who the people want to be president…”

There was a window of roughly eight years between when he was old enough to vote and was convicted of rape and deviant sexual conduct in 1992, where the boxer could have voted — Tyson served three years in prison on the conviction, before being released.

Boxer applied in the present tense, as “Iron Mike,” as Tyson was called in his heyday, is set to return to the ring on November 28 to take on Roy Jones Jr. in an eight-round exhibition fight.

The bout will be his first in 15 years and as seen in the clip below, it’s hard to believe that Tyson is 54-years-old.

His opponent is having second thoughts about the decision, telling Sky Sports recently that he may have “made a mistake” by agreeing to the fight.

“He’s still Mike Tyson, he’s still one of the strongest, most explosive people who ever touched a boxing ring,” Jones Jr. noted. “If anything, I made a mistake going in with him. He’s the bigger guy, he’s the explosive guy.”

As for his time behind bars, Tyson said in his podcast “Hotboxin’ With Mike Tyson,” that he “had a ball in prison.”

He shared some details of that time in an Aug. 27 show featuring sportscaster Jim Gray.

“I thought that this was the worst thing that could happen to a human being,” Tyson said.

“I had a girlfriend and I got a girl pregnant in prison. I was living a life in prison,” he added — the “girl” he got pregnant worked at the prison, according to Tyson.
