Fox News host Tucker Carlson opened Monday night’s show by acknowledging the passing of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg and reflecting on the fragility of life.

The host of “Tucker Carlson Tonight” also cast doubt over what is being reported as Ginsburg’s “dying wish” — she reportedly told her granddaughter in her final days it was her “fervent wish … not be replaced until a new president is installed.”

Carlson reminded viewers that despite how the left treats Ginsburg, she was not a god.

“Yet, according to the left, Ginsburg was all we had,” he said. “We must obey her dying words as if they were religious text, her final wish supersedes our founding documents.”

He then played a montage of Democrats citing Ginsburg’s supposed dying wish, as if that should supersede the U.S. Constitution.

“Keep in mind, we don’t know actually what Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s final words were,” Carlson said. “Did she really leave this world fretting about a presidential election?”

“We don’t believe that for a second,” he continued. “If it were true, it would be pathetic because life is bigger than politics — even this year. We wouldn’t wish final words that small on anyone, so we are going to choose to believe that Ruth Bader Ginsburg didn’t really say that, that in real life she was thinking at the end about her family and where she might be going next. Human concerns, not partisan ones.”

The Fox News host then stated the ugly truth, that it’s “irrelevant” what Ginsburg said in regard to filling the seat she held.

“Ruth Bader Ginsburg doesn’t get to pick her replacement from her deathbed, that’s not how it works,” Carlson observed. “We have a Constitution we are supposed to be defending and that’s the whole point of the Constitution.”

“If Justice [Antonin] Scalia had said something like that, no one would have cared. We would have been embarrassed for him,” he added. “On some level, Democrats know all this. All this talk about Ginsburg’s dying wish is ridiculous and insulting to all of us in our country and they will stop soon.”

In its place, he suggested, the party will attempt to hold the country over a barrel.

“Democrats have an alternative argument at the ready,” Carlson said, “One they’ve been honing all year that goes like this: ‘Do what we want or we will hurt you.’ That’s the real argument they’re making.”

In concluding his opening monologue, Carlson highlighted a tweet from California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s chief of staff, Ann O’Leary.

The Democratic governor’s aide said she’s ready to fly to Washington “and lay my body on the floor of the United States Senate to prevent a vote from occurring before the next term of Congress.”

According to Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., Democrats blocking access to the Senate could be their only play, because he told Fox News host Sean Hannity Monday night Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., has the votes to confirm President Trump’s nominee, who is expected to be named this week, perhaps as early as Wednesday.

On that note, Sen. Cory Gardner, R-Colo., who is in a difficult reelection battle, said in a release Monday evening that he will “vote to confirm” a nominee.
