All of us have run into them occasionally: people who lack convictions of their own but parrot the convictions of whoever they are speaking with at the moment. “Go-along-to-get-along” people, who think that others will like them more if they just agree with what others are saying.
Those are people who usually have trouble governing themselves, which means that in almost every case they should never be put in a position to govern others. We see it in some parents, and in some teachers. And certainly in some politicians.
And we see it in Joe Biden and his see-saw positions over the 45-plus years of being in elected office, a man quite adept at shifting positions with the Democratic Party’s winds. Biden has been on both sides of so many issues, dodging, evading, switching, escaping, it would be accurate to call him The Great Equivocator. Even Biden himself admits it: “Forget what I’ve been saying for 40 years, I changed my mind.”
Biden is an “I’ll say what I think you want me to say” Democrat. He puts his finger to the wind to find out what the radical leftist Dems like Bernie Sanders and AOC believe, then, presto, like a tumbleweed, he rolls in that direction. Predictable behavior for a typical, lifelong professional politician, man-of-the-swamp, immoral to a fault—who says what you need to say to get more votes. He has no core beliefs that don’t change with the tide. Biden offers few new ideas of his own, talks mainly about the past. His current policies and agenda are creations of the far left. Democrats won’t admit it, but taking positions based on which way the wind is blowing is the rot at the core of the Dem political platform in the present era.
Biden is not being adept when he equivocates, he just seems to lack convictions of his own. It’s like his speech back in April when he moaned that “systematic racism” is indeed “built into every aspect of our system”. If he was being truthful when he said that, “voters may well wonder how this racism could be so pervasive after he and his president had eight years to fix it,” recites the Wall Street Journal.
At one point, Biden stated “nobody is going to take away your guns”. But he flip-flopped when asked by Anderson Cooper if a Biden presidency “means they’re going to come for my guns”, Biden’s response was “Bingo! You’re right, if you have an assault weapon…they should be illegal, period”. So, which is it, Joe?
Biden claimed he had opposed the Iraq War. A video emerged, proving otherwise, showing Biden supported the invasion of Iraq. The Great Equivocator at work.
Biden was a longtime critic of tax loopholes used by the rich. The Wall Street Journal then reported that Biden used a loophole to save about $500,000 on his personal taxes.
In March, during a debate, Biden stated he would impose a ban on fracking: “No more—no new fracking… I’m talking about stopping fracking as soon as we possibly can” he said. But three weeks ago he proved himself a liar by going to Pittsburgh and saying “I am not banning fracking” if he is elected president. Sorry, Joe, you can’t have it both ways, which was the lie and which was the truth?
Biden’s stance on wearing masks has also flip-flopped, big-time. First, he demanded he would “institute a national mask mandate nationwide starting immediately”. When told that the Constitution does not allow him to do that, he said he would only mandate masks on federal property.
He has also, during his 46 years in The Swamp , reversed positions on abortion, immigration, treatment of women, desegregation, guns, drugs, the coal industry in West Virginia, and gay marriage.
How can any voter with a conscience rely on the statements of a man who switches like this, speaking out of one side of his mouth and then the other, see-sawing on a variety of issues? The short answer is: you can’t trust someone who says what he thinks will get him the most votes.
