Mixed martial artist Colby Covington defeated opponent Tyron Woodley Saturday night, scoring a 5th round TKO, and still having plenty of fight in him, he took a jab at Joe Biden in his post-fight interview, suggesting the Democratic nominee would take a similar beating as Woodley in November.

And his efforts were rewarded when Covington received a surprise congratulatory call from President Donald Trump.

Covington put the call on speakerphone for all to hear and an excited Trump poured on the praise as he suggested they are much alike.

“You’re a great fighter man,” he said. “I tell you, you make it so easy, I don’t know how the hell you do that. Congratulations, I wanted to watch that fight tonight, I wanted to watch it, you were great.”

Trump was busy holding a rally at the Fayetteville Regional Airport, in Fayetteville, North Carolina.

“I’m proud of you man, I’m a big fan and I’m proud of you,” the president said. “You’re tough, you have the right spirit. So now go win the next one, and just keep it for a long time, right? Just keep that championship for a long time. But you are something … I appreciated the shout-out tonight, too. I’m your fan, you’re my fan. Two of a kind, two of a kind.”

Covington, who is often seen rocking a MAGA hat, is a big Trump supporter and even attended a Trump rally last week — he had previously met the president in 2018.

He attributed last week’s visit as a contributing factor to Saturday night’s big win.

“You gave me the drive and the energy when you shook my hand on Sunday at your rally,” Covington said. “It doesn’t matter if King Kong was in front of me, I was not going to lose.”

After the call, Covington thanked the president in a tweet, while giving some love to law enforcement and the military.

He also repeated his message on the election: “The silent majority is ready to make some noise November 3rd!”

The fighter met President Trump in the Oval Office in August 2018, calling it an “an out-of-body experience.”

After winning the belt in June of that year, Covington had vowed to place it on the president’s desk, according to USA Today’s MMA Junkie, and made it happen with a little help from UFC president Dana White, who is a Trump friend.

“When they walked me in to go see Trump, I’d seen him and was like, ‘Whoa, man. Is this really happening?’ I got the butterflies like I’ve never had before a fight,” he said. “But when I saw Trump, I was so nervous, man. And then I shook his hand, he’s huge, man. He’s a big guy. He was towering over me. And he was just so cool, man.”

“He didn’t have to spend as much time as he did with us, and he legitimately gave us 30 minutes,” Covington added. “He was just telling us stories and just being a regular guy. He’s down to earth. He’s just a regular guy.”

Trump’s sons, Don Jr. and Eric, also attended a Covington fight last year, with the younger sibling tweeting this photo.
