Left-leaning Americans including journalists threatened violence and death “literally” if President Donald Trump and the GOP-controlled Senate attempt to nominate and seat a new Supreme Court justice to replace the late Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

**Warning: Strong language

“If they even TRY to replace RBG we burn the entire f**king thing down,” former CNN contributor Reza Aslan, an Iranian-born religious scholar and frequent Trump critic, wrote on Twitter Friday.

In response to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s statement indicating that any nominee President Donald Trump makes will get a vote, Aslan added: “Over our dead bodies. Literally.”

Another journalist, Laura Bassett, also appeared to send a dog whistle to left-wing supporters about launching new riots should the president and the GOP act in accordance with the Constitution.

“If McConnell jams someone through, which he will, there will be riots,” she wrote, adding in a since-deleted tweet, “*more, bigger riots.”

Scores of Americans responded to the not-so-veiled threats in a variety of ways including all but daring leftists to start them.

“There are already riots,” conservative author, podcaster, and former Secret Service agent Dan Bongino posted.

During his Friday program, Fox News host Tucker Carlson spoke with other network contributors and longtime senior political analyst Brit Hume, telling him he believes the country is going to be held “hostage” to the whims of elected leaders regarding the replacement of Ginsburg.

“Our American institutions right now and our political system are undergoing a stress test as difficult and intense as I’ve ever seen,” Hume said in a remark about the division in the country that’s been building steadily since the Obama administration.

“I think the leaders have to consider what the effect would be if we plunged into what would undoubtedly be a brutal and divisive confirmation battle,” he added.

Later, in a back-and-forth with fellow Fox News host Judge Jeanine Pirro, Carlson lamented left-wing threats of violence

“At the back of everyone’s mind is, ‘Oh, maybe we shouldn’t try and exercise our system in the way it was intended to be exercised because Biden voters will get mad and start hurting people. That’s kind of a weird place to be, isn’t it?” he said.

She agreed, saying “it’s a horrible place to be,” and adding that “people who are silent now” will be speaking by casting ballots over the next 45 days ahead of the election.

For his part, President Trump has already called on the GOP-controlled Senate to prepare for him to nominate someone.

@GOP We were put in this position of power and importance to make decisions for the people who so proudly elected us, the most important of which has long been considered to be the selection of United States Supreme Court Justices. We have this obligation, without delay!” Trump wrote on Twitter Saturday morning.
