Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont was heckled about his COVID-related executive orders as he tried to officiate at a groundbreaking ceremony for an economic development project in a Hartford-area town.

Protesters at the event on Wednesday, September 16, in suburban Berlin, CT, demanded that the Democrat chief executive fully reopen the state. One man shouted that it was unreasonable that he is required to send his three-year-old daughter to daycare with a mask. The same man, or perhaps one of the other of like-minded in attendance who was exercising First Amendment rights reminded Lamont that “You are not a king, Ned.”

Lamont seemed to be thrown off balance by the commentary and almost looked like he was on the verge of crying.

“Give me three minutes and I’d be happy to have this conversation,” he told one of the protesters as he tried to resume his prepared remarks about the $18 million mixed-use project known as Steele Boulevard in the area adjacent to the town’s train station.

Lamont also chided the dissenters that they were “being incredibly rude,” which was not helping their cause.

“This is about opening up Connecticut,” the governor insisted, again as he seemingly struggled to regain his composure. “Eventually, the governor cut his comments short and left the stage,” WCBS reported.

On Tuesday, September 15, Lamont issued an executive order that potentially imposes a $100 fine on anyone who violates the state’s face mask order. The order also includes a $250 fine for attending indoor events where 25-plus people are present or outdoor gatherings that exceed 100 people. Organizers of any event that runs counter to these limitations are subject to a $500 fine. Cops and public health officials are empowered to issue these fines.

“Who gets a $500 fine today?” one of Lamont’s critics shouted at the Berlin event.

Connecticut’s COVID-positivity rate is currently about 1.2 percent.

Anyone with familiarity with Connecticut politics is aware that the state GOP threw away three consecutive, winnable governor elections by nominating candidates with zero charisma or communication skills. As the saying goes, elections have consequences.

Lamont is following the lead of most Democrat governors, particularly in neighboring New York, New Jersey, and Rhode Island, along with the Massachusetts GOP governor, by ever so slowly lifting economy-killing lockdown restrictions on their constituents.

Although the actual number of protesters was said to be small, the encounter attracted a lot of attention on social media. Here is just a sample:
