Former Fox News host Megyn Kelly blasted Sen. Kamala Harris over her praise of Jacob Blake, the man shot by a Kenosha police officer last month after he resisted arrest and appeared to go for a knife.

Benjamin Crump, an attorney representing Blake, released a statement on Monday saying that Harris, Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden’s running mate, visited his client and said she was “proud of him.”

“Sen. Harris had an inspirational and uplifting one-hour visit with Jacob Blake, Jr., and his family today,” the statement began. “She spoke individually with each family member about how they were handling the trauma and urged them to take care of their physical and mental health.

“In a moving moment, Jacob Jr. told Sen. Harris that he was proud of her, and the senator told Jacob that she was also proud of him and how he is working through his pain,” the statement continued.

The statement also said that Harris talked about “policy changes” she and Biden would seek if they win in November, including changing policing and forcing officers to undergo “implicit bias training.”

“PROUD of him? He’s accused of breaking into a sleeping woman’s house, sexually assaulting her, humiliating her & later returning to harass her,” Kelly wrote on Twitter in response to the statement.

“Then the cops she called for help say he resisted arrest, assaulted them & went for his knife. How about a word for his victim, Senator?” Kelly continued.

Others agreed online.

According to a July criminal complaint, Blake sexually assaulted his former girlfriend and stole some of her possessions. In addition, Blake was charged with criminal trespass and domestic abuse.

The complaint says that on May 3, the former girlfriend, identified as LNB, was awakened “at about 6AM…by the father of her children, Jacob Blake, herein known as the defendant, standing over her saying, ‘I want my sh*t.

“As LNB lay there, on her back, the defendant, suddenly and without warning, reached his hand between her legs, penetrated her vaginally with a finger, pull it out and sniffed it, and said, ‘Smells like you’ve been with other men,’” the complaint read.

When Kenosha officers responded to the call involving Blake, they were reportedly aware of the charges against him.

Before he was shot, the Kenosha Professional Police Association said in a statement that “officers were dispatched to the location due to a complaint that Mr. Blake was attempting to steal the caller’s keys/vehicle.”

“Officers were aware of Mr. Blake’s open warrant for felony sexual assault (3rd degree) before they arrived on scene. Mr. Blake was not breaking up a fight between two females when officers arrived on scene. The silver SUV seen in the widely circulated video was not Mr. Blake’s vehicle,” the statement continued.

The associated noted further that Blake was “armed with a knife” and was “uncooperative” and “non-compliant” from the outset.

“Based on his non-compliance, one officer tased Mr. Blake. The taser did not incapacitate Mr. Blake.  The officers once more went ‘hands-on’ with Mr. Blake; again, trying to gain control of the escalating situation,” the statement continued.

“Mr. Blake forcefully fought with the officers, including putting one of the officers in a headlock. A second taser (from a different officer than had deployed the initial taser) was then deployed on Mr. Blake. It did not appear to have any impact on him,” the association continued.

“Based on the inability to gain compliance and control after using verbal, physical and less-lethal means, the officers drew their firearms. Mr. Blake continued to ignore the officers’ commands, even with the threat of lethal force now present.”

A viral video of the incident shows Blake walking away from three Kenosha police officers who had their weapons trained on him, heading around the front of the SUV he was driving, opening the passenger door and reaching inside before he was shot seven times. The wounds left him paralyzed from the waist down.

A second video unearthed a few days later shows Blake on the ground with at least two officers tussling with them before he gets up and walks to his driver door.

The incident sparked days of looting and rioting, in which two men were shot and killed and a third wounded. Kyle Rittenhouse, 17, has been charged in the killings.
