A suburban Rochester, N.Y., assistant public school principal has precipitated controversy for a video selfie in which he shouts “F— the police.”
In the footage embedded below that apparently originally aired on Facebook Live, Steve Lysenko, who works at Spencerport High School where he also teaches ninth grade, claimed that Rochester police pepper-sprayed a peaceful BLM protest that was reportedly advancing the cause of demanding for justice for Daniel Pride, who died in police custody in March. The mayor has suspended seven Rochester police officers over that incident.
“Good evening, folks. It’s Steve Lysenko, president of the local chapter of the National Association for Multicultural Education. In an act of protest this evening, we marched west on Court Street, and we didn’t do anything but chant and sing, all the way, halfway across the bridge, at which point, we met the Rochester police department.
‘And guess what happened? Our peacekeepers ended up shooting pepper spray at us for singing and chanting and telling them what a s—-y a– job they were doing. They can F— right off, America. F— the police; F— Rochester Police Department. Thank you.”

Without naming anyone, school officials issued a statement about this incident, with the usual PC/woke disclaimer, and an apology, while noting that personnel matters are kept private.
‘As we have stated consistently and clearly, Spencerport Central School District stands in solidarity in support of racial equality and systemic change.
“We remain committed to this change, and want all of our families to know we further stand in solidarity with peaceful protesters. However, when a District employee uses language in public or on social media that does not align with our Code of Conduct or demonstrate appropriate role modeling for students, that is something that we will not condone. These statements by our administrator have caused disruption within our school community.
“We apologize to our students, parents and community that you had to hear this language from one of our employees. This will be addressed as a confidential, personnel matter.”
Public sector teachers’ unions typically provide strong job protections for their members, so it remains to be seen what action, if anything, the school district will take.
Parenthetically, and it may not apply in this instance, teachers’ unions in general across the country have placed themselves at the vanguard of opposing going back to school supposedly because of COVID, but teachers have regularly participated in non-social-distanced BLM protests.
Although the Rochester march that Lysenko is alluding to may have been peaceful, Rochester protesters separately were caught on video swarming a local restaurant, which sent patrons fleeing.
Although a Change.org petition in support of keeping Assistant Principal Lysenko on the job has nearly 5,000 signatures, many Twitter users gave the educator a failing grade. Here is just a sample:
And anyone has questions about why our children have such absurd beluefs about this country? I’m sure the police shot at you for merely walking across a bridge. Weren’t blocking that bridge, were you? Would love to see him survive w/o police protection.Multi-Cultural Education?😳

The word “bridge” in his statement told me all I needed to know as to why the police showed up. When will these useful idiots figure out they are not entitled to impede traffic? It’s called false imprisonment to forcibly stop and hold motorists against their will.

Easy to see what’s wrong there. No wonder the kids think the way they do.

Doesn’t belong in education. Aren’t you supposed to keep your political views private?
— Maureen Cellura (@MaureenCellura) September 6, 2020
He can go and riot , but the schools aren’t fully open because the teachers are afraid of COVID ????

I’ve got a daughter with 2 years left in public schools and I can’t wait for her to be done. It’ll be bad enough getting her through college without a corrupt mind.

We should defund everything and anything related to Public Education. NOW.
