Trump mocks Pelosi for being easily ‘set-up’, suggests salon owner run the House of Representatives

President Donald Trump got in on what has proven to be a popular sport these past few days — mocking House Speaker Nancy Pelosi for what has been dubbed “Salon-gate.”

Appearing at a campaign event held Thursday at an airport hangar in Latrobe, Pa., Trump was going off on Democrats and their three years of “political witch hunts” when he referenced Pelosi getting busted at a San Francisco hair salon.

Not only was the Democratic lawmaker getting her hair done at a salon not open to the public because of local restrictions, Pelosi was seen on a video prancing around without a mask. Her haughty response to the ensuing controversy was to attack the salon owner and demand an apology for being “set up.”

“It was clearly a setup,” she fumed. “I take responsibility for falling for a setup by a neighborhood salon that I’ve gone to for years. And that’s really what it is — I think that this salon owes me an apology for setting me up.”

“I’ll tell you what, she must have treated that beauty salon owner pretty badly. She uses the salon and the salon turned her in?” Trump told supporters. “So I just put out that if she was set up, then she shouldn’t be leading the House of Representatives. I want the salon owner to lead the House of Representatives.”

Earlier in the day, Trump shared a tweet with the same message.

In another tweet, the president asked a rather prudent question of “Crazy Nancy,” in response to Pelosi’s ready-made excuse that she was set up by the salon owner.

“Crazy Nancy Pelosi said she was “set up” by the beauty parlor owner when she improperly had the salon opened (and didn’t wear a MASK!). Does anyone want a Speaker of the House who can be so easily SET UP?” Trump tweeted.

However, the best dig of the day may have come when White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany played a continuous loop of the leaked salon video at the daily press briefing while taking a shot at Pelosi for holding up $1.3 trillion in pandemic relief for the American people — money intended to support small businesses like hair salons.

“Today, I can announce: We have found Nancy Pelosi,” McEnany said. “As you can see, we found Nancy Pelosi going into her hair salon. We will be playing the video on loop for all of you to see during the duration of this introduction.”

“Nancy Pelosi was not in the halls of Congress when I asked where she was.  She was not working in good faith to make a deal for the American people,” she added. “Nope.  Nancy Pelosi was found in San Francisco, at a hair salon, where she was indoors, even though salons in California are only open for outdoor service.  Apparently, the rules do not apply to Speaker Nancy Pelosi.”

McEnany went on to slam Pelosi for “demanding an apology from a single mother and small business owner who has received threats since Nancy Pelosi’s comments against her salon,” calling on the speaker to apologize to the American people for her elitist double standard.
