‘One hell of a picture’: Don Jr. mocks CNN for tweet ‘debunking’ riots using fiery inferno riot photo

Donald Trump Jr. scoffed at CNN Editor-at-Large Chris Cillizza’s latest column pushing back against President Donald Trump’s focus on continual rioting in major Democrat-run cities while using a photo of a burning building.

“Trump’s efforts to label what is happening in major cities as ‘riots’ speaks at least somewhat to his desperation, politically speaking, at the moment,” Cillizza wrote in a Twitter post containing a link to his column.

The story features a photograph of police officers in riot gear standing next to a tactical vehicle that is parked on a street with a fully engulfed burning building behind them, presumably during a riot.

The conflicting message of Cillizza’s claim and the action featured in the photograph did not slip by Don Jr.

“I get that you’re the marketing arm of the [Democratic National Committee] but that’s one hell of a picture to make your point and push your propaganda with. I assume the building spontaneously combusted? Is that what you’re going with?” Don Jr. mockingly wrote in response.

“To hear Trump and his allies tell it, the situations unfolding in Portland, Oregon, and Kenosha, Wisconsin, in response to several high-profile shootings by the police of Black men is rioting, plain and simple,” Cillizza writes in his column.

He then quotes the president, who actually mentioned several cities experiencing rioting and various forms of continuous unrest during his Thursday acceptance speech to close out the Republican National Convention: “In the strongest possible terms the Republican Party condemns the rioting, looting, arson and violence we have seen in Democrat-run cities all, like Kenosha, Minneapolis, Portland, Chicago and New York, many others, Democrat-run.

“There’s violence and danger in the streets of many Democrat-run cities throughout America,” the president added.

Citing CNN’s Harry Enten, Cillizza went on to say that the president’s polling numbers slipped nationally following the George Floyd incident in May, though it’s unclear which surveys Enten and Cillizza are referencing.

The editor-at-large then inserted a quote from Enten that was factually incorrect: “Peaceful protests dominated the news, race relations jumped in importance in the voters’ minds and support for the Black Lives Matter movement rose to a majority.”

Looting, riots, and destruction accompanied those ‘peaceful protests’ in many major cities after the Floyd incident, and especially in Minneapolis where Floyd died. What is also true is that rioting has continued throughout the summer in many of the cities the president mentioned in his acceptance speech.

As for whether or not overall support for BLM rose to a majority is debatable, but what is true is that support for the group has tanked following a summer of BLM-linked riots. Also, blacks whose neighborhoods and shopping areas were devastated in BLM-linked riots and looting are also upset at the organization.

Notably, the Left-leaning ‘mainstream media’ downplayed or ignored the ongoing riots throughout the summer. But now that the president has begun highlighting them, some of the same media, including CNN, are growing increasingly concerned that they are working to Trump’s advantage in November.

And indeed, there is new anecdotal evidence to suggest that’s true.

“There’s no doubt it’s playing into Trump’s hands,” Paul Soglin, who served as mayor of Madison on and off for two decades, told Politico last week as regards to the unrest in Kenosha following the police shooting of a black man, Jacob Blake, that now appears to have been justified.

“There’s a significant number of undecided voters who are not ideological, and they can move very easily from Republican to the Democratic column and back again,” he continued. “They are, in effect, the people who decide elections.”
