A St. Louis, Mo., police officer is fighting for his life in a local hospital after being shot in the head on Saturday night. A second officer is in stable condition with a gunshot wound to the leg suffered while backing up his colleague.
The officers were searching for a suspect and a victim after being dispatched on a shots-fired call when the alleged perpetrator reportedly open fire on them at approximately 6 p.m. No victim from the initial call was located.
The alleged gunman barricaded himself in a residence after ordering the residents to leave, prompting a huge response by SWAT teams and other cops, including those skilled in negotiation. Law enforcement locked down the neighborhood.
The suspect was eventually taken into custody in the early hours of Sunday morning, reportedly after offices deployed tear gas at one point.
The barricaded subject from the 3700 block of Hartford has been taken into custody and the area has been rendered safe.

Police Chief John Hayden said that “These officers, all they’re trying to do is their job and try to help a person who’s wounded and they come under fire themselves,” KMOV reported. “The officer who’s most critically injured, pray for him.” The leg injury to the other officer is non-life-threatening.
Since June 1, eight St. Louis police officers have been shot in the line of duty, including four shot on the night of June 2. Fortunately, those injuries were non-life-threatening.
Chief Hayden added that the situation as it relates to surging crime in St. Louis has led to a very trying and difficult summer.
Both officers are about 29 years of age and relatively new to law enforcement. The seriously injured officer has about 3-1/2 years on the force, while the other officer has been on the job for about one year.
“The shooting happened the same day widow of retired Police Captain David Dorn led a march in the city calling for peace and healing,” KMOV added.
Ann Dorn made a powerful, heartbreaking speech at the Republican National Convention calling for an end to violence. Looters shot and killed Capt. Dorn on June 2, 2020, while ransacking a pawn shop.
With the hashtag #BackTheBlue, Missouri Gov. Mark Parson is among the elected officials who are praying for the officers’ recovery.
Two @SLMPD officers were shot by a gunman tonight while protecting St. Louis citizens, and they are now hospitalized. Teresa & I are praying for the officers and their families. Chief Hayden said this makes eight STL officers shot since June. This violence must end! #BackTheBlue https://t.co/bT97CdfBHY

St. Louis made headlines earlier this summer when the Soros-backed prosecutor Kim Gardner filed felony weapons charges against Mark and Patricia McCloskey who were trying to protect their home from trespassers. The McCloskeys also spoke at the RNC.
Responding to Saturday night’s shooting, Gardner issued a statement that “We extend our deepest concern and sadness surrounding today’s unfortunate events. I want to extend my prayers for the injured SLMPD officers and their families.”
Check back for updates on the condition of the two wounded St. Louis police officers.
Update: The critically injured officer has unfortunately passed away. Officer Tamarris L. Bohannon leaves behind a wife and three children.
Officer Tamarris L. Bohannon dedicated over three and a half years of service to the citizens of the City of St. Louis.
