A powerful new documentary film co-produced by “Justified” actor Nick Searcy and slated for release this fall revisits the importance of preserving and defending Christianity in an America that is beset by rising statism and turmoil.

The film is called, “America, America, God Shed His Grace on Thee,” by the Centennial Institute and the Western Conservative Summit. It features interviews with such notables as the late Herman Cain, Ted Cruz,  and Rush Limbaugh’s long-time call screener and show producer James “Bo Snerdley” Golden, all of whom discuss the importance of God and faith to the long-term survival of the country.

Searcy, who has starred in a number of popular films including “The Fugitive,” “Castaway,” and “The Shape of Water,” and who most recently appeared in the FX series “Justified,” also appears in the documentary.

“I have never felt a greater need and hunger for God among our people as I did as we traveled around the country making this picture,” said director Chris Burgard. “You can’t separate liberty from God. Riots, pandemic, unrest…there is an awakening happening, a revival, and it is growing.”

Here is the documentary’s trailer:

The film comes amid extended COVID-19 lockdowns and state-ordered closures of ‘non-essential’ businesses and places of worship, the latter of which has been unsuccessfully challenged in courts of law around the country.

It also comes as violence, rioting, and looting continue to plague large American cities including Chicago, Portland, Seattle, and New York City.

According to a press release for the film:

Through interviews with high-profile Conservative leaders, the documentary explores how Scripture and Judeo-Christian values influenced the founding of the United States. Senator Ted Cruz, Dennis Prager, Brigitte Gabriel, Ben Shapiro and Secretary [of Housing and Urban Development] [Dr.] Ben Carson are among the interviewees. “America, America, God Shed His Grace on Thee” features the late Herman Cain’s last interview.

“This movie is about America’s relationship with God—how it started, how it has changed since our founding, and how that relationship will carry us into the future,” said Searcy.

“It’s also about one very handsome Hollywood actor’s quixotic quest to find someone smarter than himself and his fellow thespians—with partial success,” he added.

The institute, a public policy think tank based at Colorado Christian University, is currently in the process of raising $400,000 to complete the hour-long documentary.

“While elections are important, what our nation really needs is to return to its biblical founding,” noted Jeff Hunt, chairman of the Western Conservative Summit.

The documentary is slated to debut at the Centennial Institute’s 11th Annual Western Conservative Summit on Oct. 10. The summit will be held virtually and free of charge for the first time in the event’s history, officials said.

Conservatives and Republican lawmakers interviewed for the documentary sounded the alarm over what some view as the country’s declining moral foundation and warned that without sustaining the Christian faith, the country could be lost.

“The death of religion in America is the death of America as we know it,” Prager says.

“There has been an attack on churches, on the freedom of churches, on the ability of people even to go into church,” notes podcaster Michael Knowles.

“Point to the truth that all men are created equal, and that is America,” adds Golden.
