Rep. Ayanna Pressley on Friday called for more Americans to take to the streets and create “unrest” over the unsubstantiated claim that President Donald Trump is “dismantling” the U.S. Postal Service ahead of the November elections.

“This is as much about public outcry, organizing and mobilizing and applying pressure so that this GOP-led Senate and these governors that continue to carry water for this administration, putting American people in harm’s way, turning a deaf ear to the needs of our families and our communities – hold them accountable,” Pressley said during an interview on MSNBC’s “AM Joy.”

“Make the phone calls, send the emails, show up,” the Massachusetts Democrat continued. “You know, there needs to be unrest in the streets for as long as there’s unrest in our lives, and unfortunately, there’s plenty to go around.”

Critics pounded Pressley online for making “unhinged” and “dangerous” remarks.

Democrats and their allies in the media have been echoing the conspiracy theory that the president and his appointed postmaster general, Louis DeJoy, are plotting to disrupt delivery of mail-in ballots ahead of the election in order to sow chaos, as a record number are expected to be sent this year.

To that end, the Postal Service has warned that a massive influx of ballots following years of cuts to staff and infrastructure thanks to bad financial practices could delay delivery of mail in 46 states.

Meanwhile, Democrats are continuing to push for expanded mail-in balloting, ignoring the Postal Service’s warnings that disruptions are likely.

But DeJoy is working to improve delivery service by streamlining the process to match the available staff on hand. In May, he proposed a 15-percent reduction in mail-sorting machines due to a reduction in mail volume, as a cost-cutting measure.

“The Postal Service routinely moves equipment around its network as necessary to match changing mail and package volumes,” USPS spokesperson Marti Johnson told The Daily Caller News Foundation. “Package volume is up, but mail volume continues to decline.”

Regarding Pressley’s comments, they come after months of violent protests, riots, and looting that have cost cities and businesses untold millions in damages and losses. In many Democrat-run states and cities, governors and mayors have turned a blind eye to the carnage while cracking down instead on residents and business owners who want to reopen after living under coronavirus restrictions all summer.

Critics, including many police officials, believe much of the rioting and looting is no longer tied to the May incident involving George Floyd.

In her interview, Pressley also ripped DeJoy, accusing him of “corruption” because of his restructuring of the USPS and stating that, at a “bare minimum,” he should be called to testify before the House Oversight Committee.

Protesters organized by the group Shut Down D.C. gathered outside of DeJoy’s home on Saturday in northwest Washington, D.C., according to WUSA, claiming he is attempted to limit mail-in voting.

“We’re in the middle of a historic pandemic and as many as 40 percent of Americans plan on casting their ballot by mail. If we can’t rely on those ballots getting to where they need to go, we’ve got a serious problem with democracy,” Patrick Young, a group organizer, told the local station.

For his part, President Trump has opposed additional funding for the postal service under the terms demanded by Democrats: Universal mail-in balloting for the upcoming election.

“They’re admitting that they want $3.5 billion, and they’re not going to do a deal that’s good for the American people. Therefore, they’re not going to get the $3.5 billion. Therefore, they can’t do the universal mail-in vote,” he said last week.

Trump has repeatedly voiced opposition to mail-in balloting, which is ripe for fraud and abuse and has already proven to be problematic this primary season.
