Former Alaska governor and vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin predicted on Saturday she would be subjected to raucous criticism after unintentionally mispronouncing Sen. Kamala Harris’ first name.
During an interview with Fox News’ Jesse Watters, Palin was asked what she thought about presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden’s selection of Harris, a California senator, as his running mate.
“You went through the VP experience and you’re seeing now a ticket that could have some trust issues based on, maybe, Biden didn’t want Harris as VP, Harris said some nasty stuff about Joe and a lot of Democratic voters don’t even think that Joe’s gonna finish the first term. How would you assess this ticket?” Watters asked.

“Well, it is a different type of combination when you consider what was said in the primary, you know Kamala (“CAMel-eh”) — Kamala (“Comma-lah”) — you say tomato, I say ‘tomahto,’ I hate to say the name wrong because I’m going to get clobbered for that,” Palin responded.
“They say that’s inappropriate if you mispronounce her name,” Watters said, adding: “It’s ‘COMMA-lah.’”
“Okay, like anybody does that on purpose,” Palin shot back.
Continuing, the former VP who ran with the late Sen. John McCain atop the GOP ticket in 2008 against then-U.S. Sens. Barack Obama (Illinois) and Biden (Delaware), Palin described the current presumptive Democratic ticket a “strange combination.”
“If you consider what they said about each other for months and months and months, she kicked the crud out of Joe Biden in the primaries, and then they hook up as buddies…Where’s the sincerity?” Palin said.
Left-wing media outlets and pundits have claimed that mispronouncing Harris’ first name is racist and intentionally so.
“If you do this, you are a bad person,” proclaimed comedian Maritza Montañez in an MTV video, going on to say that having to hear mispronunciations of her first name every day is “just exhausting.”
“People mispronounce my name seven days a week.… If you don’t say my name correctly, it’s basically like saying, I don’t care about you as a person,” adds Mamoudou N’Diaye, a Senegalese athlete and basketball player.
According to Nicole Holliday, an assistant professor of sociolinguistics at the University of Pennsylvania who has been working on a research paper regarding Harris, claims the mispronunciation of Harris’ name is emblematic of ‘systemic racism’ in the U.S.
“Even people who agree with her policies, even people who plan to vote for Biden, might still harbor some of that internalized negative ideologies about women, about immigrants, about Black people — that she has to overcome,” she told the San Francisco Chronicle.
Last week, Fox News host Tucker Carlson was pilloried for mispronouncing her name.
“So I’m disrespecting her by mispronouncing her name unintentionally. So it begins. You’re not allowed to criticize Ka-MAH-la Harris, or CAM-ala Harris, or whatever,” he said in response to being corrected on his show by former Clinton adviser Richard Goodstein.
“Out of respect for somebody who’s going to be on the national ticket, pronouncing her name right… it’s kind of a bare minimum,” Goodstein added.
The following evening, Carlson noted the media’s outrage over his intentional mispronunciation of Harris’ name, then played a clip of Biden mispronouncing it in the same manner, the Daily Caller reported.
“Just when you think darkness is descending, old Joe Biden shows up and the sun begins to rise. Rescued again by Joe Biden. Thank you, Joe. What a bigot,” Carlson mused.
Meanwhile, President Donald Trump has been called all sorts of vile names — ‘Nazi,’ ‘bigot,’ ‘Hitler,’ ‘racist’ — by Democratic lawmakers and Leftist commentators.
