Insiders dish on Obama’s alleged behind the scenes trash-talk of Biden: ‘Don’t underestimate Joe’s ability to f–k things up’

Just because former President Barack Hussein Obama and presumptive Democrat presidential nominee Joe Biden publicly portray themselves as best buds, as seen in the awkward tweet below, doesn’t mean they’re as chummy as one might expect.

According to an investigation by Politico, which has spoken “with dozens of senior officials of the Obama-Biden administration,” there has always been underlying tension and resentment between the two men. And much of it stems from the Obama camp’s longtime belief that Biden’s kind of a clown.

“Young White House aides frequently mocked Biden’s gaffes and lack of discipline in comparison to the almost clerical Obama,” Politico reported.

“They would chortle at how Biden, like an elderly uncle at Thanksgiving, would launch into extended monologues that everyone had heard before. Former administration officials treated Biden dismissively in their memoirs.”

And Obama would not only tolerate it but also play along as well.

In his gossip book published two years ago, former FBI Director James Comey reportedly recalled telling incidents during which Biden would interrupt conversations being led by the then-president to ask a question.

“Obama would politely agree [to hear Biden out], but something in his expression suggested he knew full well that for the next five or 10 minutes we would all be heading in Direction Z. After listening and patiently waiting, President Obama would then bring the conversation back on course,” Comey reportedly wrote.

Comey’s rendition of these incidents gives the appearance of a president who sort of viewed his vice president as, well, an idiot. Obama’s treatment of Biden during the 2016 presidential race (and afterward) only adds to this appearance.

According to Politico, Obama had “misgivings” about Biden being his successor, ergo why he ultimately chose to side with failed 2016 Democrat nominee Hillary Clinton.

Four years later, Biden is now reportedly out “to prove that the former president and many of his aides underestimated the very real strengths of his partner.” In fact, some of Biden’s loyalists have long believed he’s better than Obama.

His loyalists reportedly “stewed” during his eight years in office, as they felt he “had a range of Washington political skills Obama lacked.”

“The president and his closest allies seemed unaware of how he would alienate potential allies with his preachy tone, particularly in Congress, where Biden excelled. Biden, for his part, felt Obama too often let his head get in the way. ‘Sometimes I thought he was deliberate to a fault,’ he wrote in his 2017 book Promise Me, Dad,” according to Politico.

Yet Biden doesn’t appear to be faring well at his mission. His 2020 campaign has been riddled with endless gaffes, errors, outbursts and craziness:

The tensions between Obama and Biden reportedly only further flourished during the heated 2020 Democrat primary debates and elections last year.

“Many top Obama administration and campaign officials sat on the sidelines or worked for candidates other than Biden,” Politico noted.

“Top former aides including strategist David Axelrod and the young hosts of Pod Save America—Jon Favreau, Tommy Vietor, Jon Lovett and Dan Pfeiffer—at times ridiculed the former vice president’s campaign.”

It doesn’t help that Biden has opted to hide in his basement instead of appearing on any of these podcasts or even taking questions, for that matter.

But it also doesn’t help that, according to Biden’s aides, Obama hasn’t been doing “nearly as much” for their boss as he’d done for years ago for Clinton.

Meanwhile, the former president has allegedly been trash-talking his former VP behind the scenes.

“Don’t underestimate Joe’s ability to f–k things up,” he reportedly told one Democrat. And during the primaries, he allegedly said to one unnamed candidate, “And you know who really doesn’t have it? Joe Biden.” Ouch.

Of course, Obama eventually endorsed Biden after the former VP hit a home run in South Carolina:

Yet the resentment between the two men still remains.

“[E]ven in victory, Biden and his aides often act like they have something to prove to the Obama team that doubted them. Some Biden allies noted that Obama’s endorsement of Biden, when it finally arrived, lacked the effusiveness of his endorsement of Clinton,” Politico reported.

“Biden aides also fumed at Axelrod and Plouffe penning a New York Times op-ed that instructed them on ‘What Joe Biden Needs to Do to Beat Trump,’ according to Democrats who talked with them. Meanwhile, some senior Democrats credited Obama for Biden’s comeback given his strength among Black voters, while Biden has emphasized he did it on his own.”

Yet Biden’s campaign continues to sputter like a leaky shower faucet thanks to his never-ending gaffes and the campaign’s glaring lack of effort.

Around the start of the month, Politico ran a report highlighting the contrast between his campaign and that of the president.

“Donald Trump’s campaign says it knocked on over 1 million doors in the past week alone. Joe Biden’s campaign says it knocked on zero,” the outlet reported.

“The Republican and Democratic parties — from the presidential candidates on down — are taking polar opposite approaches to door-to-door canvassing this fall. The competing bets on the value of face-to-face campaigning during a pandemic has no modern precedent, making it a potential wild card in November, especially in close races.”

At the time, people wondered what the hell Biden was doing.

Chances are Obama was — and still is — wondering the same thing. Of course, knowing Biden, he himself may very well have no idea what he’s doing, or where he is.
