President Donald Trump’s pursuit of peace between Israel and the United Arab Emirates can mean only one thing: Peace is BAD!
Or so one might conclude by reading the inane tweets that bubbled up throughout social media after the president announced Thursday morning that his administration has successfully negotiated a “historic” peace agreement between Israel and the UAE.

“President Donald J. Trump has brokered an agreement to normalize relations between the United Arab Emirates and Israel – the first such agreement between Israel and a major Arab country since 1994,” a statement from the White House reads.
“The countries have committed to the exchange of embassies and ambassadors, and to begin cooperation in a broad range of fields including education, healthcare, trade, and security. This historic breakthrough is the most significant step toward peace in the Middle East in over 25 years.”
This is a good thing, right? Wrong.
It’s a “distraction,” see, and a “fake deal,” see, and “foreign interference in our elections,” see, and “Trump disinformation,” see …

According to the non-zealots in this world who actually know a thing or two, the deal is a breakthrough that will ameliorate tensions in the Middle East.
“It is a significant advance in Arab-Israeli relations that lowers tensions and creates new energy for positive change across the region,” U.A.E. Ambassador to the U.S. Youssef Otaiba reportedly said in a statement.
Why will it lower tensions? Because it contains a stipulation — one agreed to by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu — that will prevent Israel from annexing parts of the Palestinian-occupied West Bank.
“Israel has ties with Egypt and Jordan, but the U.A.E. is the first Gulf Arab state to announce formal relations with Israel. The Gulf Arab states have historically held off doing so amid Israel’s long-running conflict with the Palestinians. In recent years, shared enmity with Iran have brought Israel and several Gulf states closer together,” The Wall Street Journal reported.
“The diplomatic breakthrough came after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu agreed to suspend his drive to annex parts of the occupied West Bank. That campaign had drawn criticism from Arab states and Europe. They say any move to unilaterally claim areas Palestinians claim for a future state would permanently dash hopes for the creation of a Palestinian state alongside Israel.”
This is good news for everybody, save for Iran and of course people suffering from Trump Derangement Syndrome, the latter of whom think Russian President Vladimir Putin — always Putin — is somehow behind this deal:

As for the experts …
“Peace between the Arabs and the Israelis is Iran’s worst nightmare. What we see today is a new Middle East,” Brian Hook, the U.S. State Department’s special envoy for Iran, reportedly said in a statement.
The one thing to watch for though is whether Israel sticks to its non-annexation vow.
“Anwar Gargash, the U.A.E.’s minister of state for foreign affairs, told reporters on a conference call following the White House announcement that Washington’s involvement provided assurances of Israel’s commitment to suspending annexation, but said it was ultimately up to the Israelis and Palestinians to reach a final settlement,” the Journal noted.
