The “Karens” are out there and you know who they are.

But, good things happen when you respect law enforcement and don’t assume everything is always about race.

Thursday, August 6th was a “very good day” for Palm Beach County Board of County Commissioners candidate Calvin Turnquest.

As he was out and about canvassing neighborhoods last week, he said a concerned couple called the police on Turnquest and reported him as a “suspicious character.”

In response, Turnquest had a choice. He could make a scene and scream “racism,” or he could handle himself like a man. He chose the latter option, and for that, he wound up having a “very good day.”

When speaking with the cops last week, he explained his situation calmly and then asked if he could have the couple’s phone number so he could contact them. They obliged. Turnquest then shot a text the couple’s way, and in response, the couple invited him to lunch. He agreed.

In the Facebook post seen above published late Thursday, he described how he’d gone to lunch with the couple earlier that afternoon and discovered that surprise surprise, not only are they a “great Christian family,” but they’d had a very unmalicious reason for calling the cops on him.

“It was a pleasant three-hour lunch with us sharing a lot about our upbringing, personal and professional lives, and our faith,” he wrote.

“They are a great Christian family who’ve dedicated themselves to Christ and the Church, and was only looking out for their neighbors and community. There was no malice or ill-intent behind their call; just concerned citizens.”

But, he added, everybody involved, including the police, were awfully lucky that the incident had involved a sensible man like him versus, say, a Black Lives Matter extremist.

“I’m just happy it happened to me and not someone else who doesn’t have my demeanor or respect for Law Enforcement Officers. It could have turned out very badly for someone else,” he explained.

Not all incidents turn out so well. Sometimes people call the police over ridiculous “suspicions.” Sometimes incidents involve lots of shouting, plenty of profanity and sometimes even physical assault. And of course, they always involve the police. Sometimes LITERALLY. This is what society refers to often as being a “Karen.”

The Karen issue has become so prevalent that two months ago New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo became the first governor in America to sign a so-called anti-Karen bill into law.

“Gov. Cuomo signed into law State Senate Bill 8492, which imposes a civil penalty for calling the cops on a black person, or any other member of a ‘protected class,’ when there’s ‘no reason to believe a crime or offense, or imminent threat to person or property, is occurring,'” Manhattan Institute senior fellow Stephen Eide notes.

“It was prompted by the Amy Cooper affair. Cooper is a white New Yorker, who, on Memorial Day in Central Park, called police over a dispute with Christian Cooper, a black man unrelated to her. His bird-watching was disrupted by her dog running free (illegally), and she interpreted his request that she leash her dog as a threat.”

While nice in theory, just imagine what would have happened to the “great Christian family” who’d called the cops on Turnquest if they all lived in New York.

Better yet, imagine what would have happened if, by chance, Turnquest had really been a criminal in the middle of perpetrating evil acts. What then?

As noted by Eide for the New York Post, “What if, by contrast, reducing the risk of bigoted 911 calls increases the risk of people making fewer legitimate 911 calls, for fear of becoming the next Amy Cooper?”

In fact, is it a surprise that ever since June, crime in New York City has skyrocketed? And this isn’t even taking into consideration terrorism.

“For many years, Americans have struggled to reconcile their ‘eyes on the street’ responsibilities with political correctness. On 9/11, for example, Portland International Jetport ticketing agent Michael Tuohey gave himself a ‘mental slap’ (his phrase) for suspecting that Mohammed Atta was a terrorist,” Eide notes.

“Transit systems enjoin us to ‘say something’ if we ‘see something.’ A “something” worth speaking up about will differ depending on the circumstances.”

His point is that “see something, say something” recommendations would be pointless with anti-Karen laws that basically say “say something, go to jail.”

And so what’s the solution? It’s easy, according to a PSA made by New Journey PAC, a political organization launched by James Golden last year. Don’t be a Karen!

Golden, aka Rush Limbaugh’s renowned producer “Bo Snerdley,” launched the PAC to “promote black conservatives who are running for elective office. We will also promote conservative Republicans in battleground states, who come under attack from the false racial narratives the left employs like clockwork,” he said.

“[W]e are going to stand ready to defend our conservative media figures, who also come under attack with the false racial narratives, and whose advertisers are threatened by organized leftists, intent on silencing their voices through racial intimidation,” he said.
