Presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden has come under fire from conservatives over his statement that the vast majority of blacks think the same while Hispanics have diversified opinions.
The former vice president was responding to immigration-related questions from NPR correspondent Lulu Garcia-Navarro regarding Latinos, in which she asked if Biden, as president, would end deportations of Cubans.
In a rambling answer, Biden pledged to take a look at the issue on day one of his presidency, while examining U.S. immigration policy with every country.
“Are you going to reengage with Cuba though? I’m specifically wondering about the Florida communities that are incredibly interested in the Cuba issue,” Garcia-Navarro pressed.
“Yes,” Biden said repeatedly, before adding: “By the way, what you all know but most people don’t know, unlike the African-American community, with notable exceptions, the Latino community is an incredibly diverse community with incredibly different attitudes about different things.”
The former VP went on to clarify that Latinos in Florida view immigration-related issues differently than Hispanics in Arizona, “so it’s a very different, a very diverse community.”
Biden was called out by Fox News contributor, podcaster, and former Secret Service Agent Dan Bongino for his seemingly bigoted response.
“Holy s**t, did he really say this?” Bongino wrote in response to a video clip featuring Biden making the statement that was tweeted by Human Events editor Ian Miles Cheong.

Let’s see how they make excuses for this statement. I’m assuming they’ll just ignore it.

Ha ha! The bigot, Joe “El Bóbo” Biden, strikes again! Latinos are not monolithic, but to Joe, Blacks are. Segregation Joe strikes again!

During the same interview, Biden made a reference to crack cocaine when talking to a black reporter that many construed as him stereotyping African-Americans as drug users.
In a back-and-forth with CBS correspondent Errol Barnett, Biden lashed out after he was asked about taking cognitive ability tests.
“No, I haven’t taken a test. Why the hell would I take a test?” Biden responded.
“C’mon man,” he continued. “That’s like saying, ‘You — before you got on this program you took a test where you’re taking cocaine or not, what do you think?’ Huh? Are you a junkie?”
The part you miss is he says he thinks a black reporter is a junkie and should be tested for Cocaine, then soecifically says he thinks all black people are the same.
In other words, he believes all blacks are on crack.— Ross Schumann🇺🇸 (@RossSchumann) August 6, 2020
The former vice president has a history of making bigoted, racist comments, including one regarding the president he served under, Barack Obama.
In 2007 when Biden was running for the Democratic presidential nomination, he described Obama as “the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean.”
The previous year, Biden told an interviewer, “You cannot go to a 7-11 or a Dunkin Donuts unless you have a slight Indian accent. I’m not joking.”
In 2012, the then-VP warned a Virginia audience that GOP nominee Mitt Romney’s pledge to get rid of Dodd-Frank financial regulations would “put y’all back in chains!”
Last year, during a discussion about criminal justice reform at a luncheon, Biden said Americans must recognize blacks as equals so that African-American mothers, like the mother of Trayvon Martin shot by a neighborhood watch volunteer after a struggle in Florida in 2012, wouldn’t have to fear losing them when they go outside.
“We’ve got to recognize that the kid wearing a hoodie may very well be the next poet laureate and not a gangbanger,” Biden said.
A year ago this month, Biden told an audience at a campaign event in Iowa that “poor kids are just as bright and talented as white kids.”
And in May, Biden stunned many in the African-American community after he claimed if they didn’t vote for him, “you ain’t black.”
As a U.S senator in the 1970s, Biden also opposed busing of children to desegregate public schools, claiming during a congressional hearing that absent an “orderly integration of society,” his kids would “grow up in a jungle, the jungle being a racial jungle with tensions having built so high that it is going to explode at some point.”
It didn’t take long for Trump to respond to the comments from Biden, saying “Joe Biden, this morning, totally disparaged and insulted the Black community,” by claiming they don’t have “diversity” like Latinos.
