A CNN analyst and former Homeland Security official wants all U.S. airlines to adopt a “no mask list” that would permanently ban anyone who refuses to wear a mask on board flights.
“@FAA should adopt a “no mask” list — much like ‘no fly’ list for terror suspects — and permanently prohibit passengers like this from booking flights on any airlines (not just Delta). Call it ‘total jerks’ list if you want, ‘complete asses’ list if it makes you feel better,” Juliette Kayyem, who served in a policy role at DHS under then-President Barack Obama.

Kayyem’s post was in response to a report that a Delta Air Lines flight returned to its gate in Detroit after two passengers refused to don masks or face coverings, according to airline officials.
According to Delta spokeswoman Emma Kate Protis, Flight 1227 was set to depart from Detroit to Atlanta July 23, but had to return to the terminal when the passengers refused to comply with the airline’s mask-wearing requirement.
After a short delay, the flight was able to depart. The two passengers were removed, The Hill reported.
On the company’s website, Delta states that “customers and employees are required to wear a face mask, or appropriate cloth face covering over their nose and mouth throughout their travel, aligning with best practice guidelines from the [Centers for Disease Control and Prevention].”
In addition, Delta has blocked off seats onboard its planes to provide for some distancing between passengers.
Last week, airline CEO Ed Bastian said more than 100 people have been added to the company’s ‘no-fly list’ for refusing to wear a mask in-flight.
“We’ve been steadily and rather aggressively stepping up our enforcement of the mask policy. You cannot board a Delta plane unless you have a mask on,” he said, The Hill reported.
“If you board the plane and you insist on not wearing your mask, we will insist that you don’t fly Delta into the future. We already have over 100 people we’ve put on that list,” he said in an interview with NBC News.

He went on to note that some passengers have complained that wearing a mask is “dangerous” for them.
“We’ve told them you may not want to fly, to reconsider whether air travel is the right form of transportation. But if they do decide…they want to continue to fly, we have a screening process with the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and Stat MD where the customer will talk to the doctor before they get on the plane to actually have it validated that they indeed cannot wear a mask.”
Conservative pundit David J. Harris shared a video recently in which he boarded an American Airlines flight without a mask recently, noting that he has a medical condition.
The MAGA hat-wearing Harris noted that one couple aboard the flight took issue with him.
“If you have a medical reason, you do not have to comply. There are lots of conditions on the list,” Harris said in the video caption posted to Instagram. “Know your rights! Know the truth! And please know, unless you’re wearing an N95 mask, any cloth covering or ear loop will not stop you from getting it!”
“So because I declared that I have a medical reason to not wear a mask, people on the plane are tripping out and may not want to fly on this plane,” he said in the video. “The captain has just announced that he’s going to look up all the rules to make sure he’s following the guidelines and then make the best decision regarding safety.”
As for Kayyem’s post, a number of Twitter users disagreed, with one suggesting there should be a “Karen list” that prevents “condescending” passengers like her from boarding.
.@FAA should adopt a "Karen" list and permanently prohibit nosey condescending passengers who are worried about everyone but themselves from booking flights on any airlines. Give the rest of us some peace and quiet. https://t.co/xtpp3ZxrYi

Why stop with a list? If only there was a way for us to know any person who is undesirable from the moment we see them.
Perhaps we should make them get specialized marking tattoos, or maybe even wear specific patches on their clothing.

Perhaps, we should take attendance at protests to identify all those folks violating social distancing and not wearing masks, too. And develop a registry for them. With ID numbers assigned to find them if we need to round them up and quarantine them all. How’d that be?
