Richmond mayor’s claim violent BLM riot was lead by covert ‘white supremacists’ turns up zero evidence

Despite the nation being rocked by riots instigated by left-wing extremists, after one particularly devastating riot last weekend in the Virginia capital of Richmond, Mayor Levar Stoney, a Democrat, blamed the destruction on white supremacists.

“There were white supremacists marching under the banner of Black Lives Matter, attempting to undermine an otherwise overwhelmingly peaceful movement towards social justice,” he reportedly said at a press conference Sunday.

While one would usually be laughed out of a room for positing such an outrageous claim, Stoney reportedly wound up receiving backing from local police. As a result, the claim wound up going mega-viral among the left.

What far-left radio show host Joe Madison neglected to consider when he posted the rude tweet above was that neither Stoney nor his police have shared a shred of evidence to back up their outlandish allegation. In fact, the actual evidence seems to show the exact opposite of what the mayor has alleged.

But it’s not just journalists like Andy Ngo, who’s been accused of being a “right-winger,” who’ve pointed out the lack of evidence. So has even Jared Holt, a resentful far-left propagandist affiliated with the smear merchant website Right Wing Watch.

“On Tuesday, I asked Richmond Police and the Richmond Mayor’s office to provide information to support the claims they made to this outlet that white supremacists instigated riots in their city. They have not responded to my request,” he tweeted Thursday afternoon.

And as noted by centrist commentator Tim Pool, if even a far-left propagandist like Holt is skeptical of Stoney’s claim, that means something:

Pool’s claim is based on Holt’s history of trying to smear conservatives.

The Virginia Mercury has also not been able to obtain any answers.

“Early Tuesday afternoon, The Virginia Mercury asked officials to clarify the basis for the mayor’s comments. As of Wednesday evening, neither the Richmond Police Department nor the mayor’s office had provided additional evidence of white supremacist influence,” the outlet reported Thursday.

The paper added that the “confusion” may stem from “an unlikely alliance” between a subset of the larger Black Lives Matter movement and a single member of the allegedly “far-right” Boogaloo movement named Mike Dunn.

However, Dunn “insists he is not a white supremacist” and claims that he and the BLM subset “left the protest before it turned raucous.”

Nevertheless, Stoney’s camp remains unwilling to budge from its dubious claim.

“Based on police intelligence, the mayor believes the boogaloos and the alt-right played a role in influencing and inciting the events that unfolded Saturday night,” his spokesperson told the outlet.

“This does not preclude the known involvement of Antifa and other protesters from inside and outside of the city whom police and the mayor believe also played a role.”

According to The Virginia Mercury, the riot was promoted beforehand via “an online flier of unknown origin that billed the evening as a show of solidarity with Portland, where protesters have clashed with federal agents dispatched to protect a federal courthouse.”

“A portion of the flier, which police said originated outside Richmond, read: ‘NO PEACE POLICE. DO WHAT YOU WANT. F**K S**T UP,'” the outlet reported.

That sounds no different from the rhetoric spouted by left-wing extremists in other cities, including Denver, Colorado, where conservative commentator Michelle Malkin was attacked earlier this month.

“By sharing, attending and leading the march, the Mayor and Chief believe the boogaloos share responsibility for the violence that took place that evening,” Stoney’s spokesperson reportedly added.

Of course, he provided no evidence for the claim, nor did he seem aware that it’s BLM and Antifa that have a history of rioting, not the allegedly “far-right” Boogaloo movement.
