Federal officials said Tuesday that more than three dozen officers protecting government property in riot-stricken Portland have had their personal information published online while encouraging demonstrators to go to their homes.

Richard Cline, deputy director of operations for the Federal Protective Service, told reporters that roughly 38 officers have been doxed as part of his explanation as to why they have been instructed to remove their name badges.

“We are going to convert their name [tags] to their badge number as about 38 of our officers that are out there have been doxed and their personal information has been put online,” he said, Fox News reported.

Previously, the Department of Homeland Security has said “violent anarchists” in and around the Portland area have released information about federal officers on a number of occasions. However, Cline did not say how often such releases occur.

There has been an uptick in the deployment of federal law enforcement in Portland since the beginning of July in response to continued unrest that began nearly two months ago. Agents from the Federal Protective Service, Customs and Border Protection, and the U.S. Marshal Service have been sent, among others, according to reports.

The Trump administration has said the officers were sent to protect and defend federal monuments and buildings such as the Hatfield Courthouse in Portland.

The agents and officers are likely part of the Protecting American Communities Task Force (PACT), established via executive order President Donald Trump signed June 26.

Titled, “Protecting American Monuments, Memorials, and Statues and Combating Recent Criminal Activity,” the order instructs federal agencies to bolster protection of federal monuments and properties.

“We won’t stand idly by while violent anarchists and rioters seek not only to vandalize and destroy the symbols of our nation but to disrupt law and order and sow chaos in our communities,” acting DHS Secretary Chad Wolf said in response to the order.

Oregon Democrats, as well as state and city leaders, have accused DHS of using outsized force and ‘secret police’ tactics to escalate violence, Fox News reported.

However, DHS officials note that officers are clearly identified as law enforcement and the specific agency they are with. That said, their name tags are not revealed over ongoing doxing concerns, they add.

Other federal agency chiefs including CPB acting director Mark Morgan said doxing of federal officers puts them and their families in danger.

“That’s another thing that’s absolutely disgusting,” he said, according to Fox News. “So they’re not only jeopardizing the lives of the agents, they’re also jeopardizing the lives of their families as they [are] putting out their home information and they’re suggesting that individuals go to their homes.

“So yes, as acting commissioner, I have authorized and supported removing their names from their uniforms,” he continued.

DHS warned in a June report that the doxing of officers was occurring in response to the ongoing protests in Portland, noting that they could be put at physical risk.

“While doxing does not in and of itself constitute a threat to law enforcement and their families, doxing might result in the downstream threat of violence by violent opportunists or domestic violent extremists (DVEs), or otherwise prevent DHS personnel or law enforcement partners from executing their lawful mission,” the report said.

“Doxing of law enforcement personnel has been noted in previous incidents of heightened tensions following officer-involved deaths, and DHS assesses law enforcement personnel will continue to be targeted by this activity,” it added.

Meanwhile, video posted to social media over the past 24 hours shows Antifa and BLM militants continuing to besiege the federal courthouse in Portland.
