Ghislaine Maxwell, the longtime confidante and enabler of deceased serial pedophile Jeffrey Epstein, was transferred to a federal prison in New York on Monday, as one close friend worried aloud for her safety.

“Yes, she is in BOP custody at MDC Brooklyn. We decline to comment further,” a Federal Bureau of Prisons spokesperson confirmed to Fox News.

Maxwell, who has been sent to the same Manhattan facility where Epstein died, was arrested late last week on charges she aided and abetted Epstein’s criminal sexual behavior with minors. The FBI picked up the British socialite and heiress in New Hampshire.

Prosecutors allege that Maxwell “assisted, facilitated, and contributed to Jeffrey Epstein’s abuse of minor girls by, among other things, helping Epstein to recruit, groom, and ultimately abuse victims known to Maxwell and Epstein to be under the age of 18” between 1994-1997.

“Moreover, in an effort to conceal her crimes, Maxwell repeatedly lied when questioned about her conduct, including in relation to some of the minor victims… when providing testimony under oath in 2016,” court documents said.

One of Epstein’s victims, Virginia Roberts Giuffre, filed suit against Maxwell in 2015, accusing her of defamation after allegedly grooming underage girls for sex with Epstein and rich friends.

Maxwell has denied the allegations, calling them “absolute rubbish.”

In a letter Sunday night to U.S. District Judge Alison J. Nathan, of the Southern District of New York, federal prosecutors announced their intent to transfer Maxwell, 58, for an upcoming court appearance.

“The Government has consulted with defense counsel, Christian Everdell, Esq., who has requested that the arraignment, initial appearance, and bail hearing in this matter take place on July 10, 2020,” the letter said, adding that the government and defense counsel want to discuss a protective order ahead of Maxwell’s appearance.

“Such a protective order will be necessary to facilitate the production of discovery while also protecting, among other things, the privacy and identity of third parties, including victims of the conduct charged in the Indictment,” it said.

Meanwhile, Christopher Mason, a television personality and journalist who has known Maxwell since the 1980s, told the UK’s Daily Mail Online he fears for her life, especially if she provides federal authorities with details about what she and Epstein allegedly did.

“I’m absolutely worried for her safety,” Mason said. “Do I think she’s in danger? Yes.”

Mason, who will be appearing in a new documentary series called, “Surviving Jeffrey Epstein,” also said that the threat to Maxwell could be even greater than due to reports she may be cooperative with investigators.

“The authorities are open to the possibility of some cooperation,” said Mason, the New York Post reported.

“In a way, I can’t imagine her ever giving up Prince Andrew, but if it’s life imprisonment with no hope of parole, it might be tempting,” he added.

“She of all of those people knew who slept with whom and [which young girl] was assigned to whom.”

Epstein reportedly hanged himself while in his cell at the Metropolitan Correctional Center as he faced charges of sexually abusing scores of young women and minors.

Video footage of his cell prior to his death was mysteriously wiped from surveillance systems. Two federal officers, Tova Noel and Michael Thomas, have been charged with falsifying information after claiming they checked on Epstein the night he died.

Speaking of video, Mason says Maxwell has access to scores of potentially compromising videotape, which follows previous reports claiming that Epstein had his many homes rigged with several cameras — but they’ve all disappeared.

“I’m sure she has access to the videos,’ Mason noted further. A lot of powerful people will be more than a little worried. I hope [Maxwell won’t] end up like Epstein. I’m a little worried about that.

“I think she’s in danger. There is too much power involved if she really talks.”

Another long-time friend wondered why Maxwell stayed in the U.S. and did not flee the country following Epstein’s death.

“She has very high-powered friends and I am wondering why she stayed in the US. She must have some major dirt to stay in this country,” the friend told the Post.
