Mt. Rushmore protesters shut down by National Guard … with a big assist from tow trucks

Hours before President Donald Trump delivered what some have described as the “most powerful speech” of his presidency late Friday, a ragtag group of left-wing extremists tried unsuccessfully to preemptively “cancel” the highly anticipated by blocking access to Mt. Rushmore.

According to reports, the so-called “protesters” parked their vans across the highway leading to Mt. Rushmore, disabled their vehicles by either removing their tires or slashing them and then began chanting mindless nonsense.

They also interacted with exasperated Trump supporters en route to Mt. Rushmore who were forced to park their own vehicles and counter-protest the so-called “protesters.”

As noted earlier, the “protests” in stalwart Republican Gov. Kristi Noem’s South Dakota ultimately failed.

Some protesters dispersed after the South Dakota National Guard arrived on scene about an hour after protesters blocked the road and law enforcement declared it as an ‘unlawful assembly’ over a megaphone,” Erin Bormett of the Argus Leader reported.

Watch:

At 6:30 p.m., law enforcement gave remaining protesters 30 minutes to disperse before they would arrest anyone left in the road. Shortly after 7 p.m., the National Guard largely held back onlookers and pressed in on protesters while the sheriff’s department moved in to arrest the 15 people who stayed,” Bormett’s report continued.

And that’s when the real action began.

According to protestors who declined to give their name, citing concern for state riot laws, the protesters tried to hold their position against the advancing National Guard, so they pushed back against the riot shields. This prompted law enforcement to use pepper spray against individuals as they pressed forward.”

Next came the arrests and removal/towing of the disabled vehicles, the latter of which spurred crowds standing alongside the road en route to Mt. Rushmore to break out into thunderous applause.

Last but not least, the president not only delivered his highly anticipated July 4th speech but also took time to address the same strain of left-wing extremism that had inspired the so-called “protesters” to try and preempt his event.

As reported on previously, left-wing talking heads in the media have in recent days been promoting the anti-American idea that Mt. Rushmore is somehow racist and must, therefore, be excised from history. They’ve also targeted numerous other historical artifacts, including statues of George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, etc.

Speaking before an estimated 7,500 onlookers, the president said late Friday that this radical push to erase American history must end — and it must end NOW.

“Our nation is witnessing a merciless campaign to wipe out our history, defame our heroes, erase our values, and indoctrinate our children. Angry mobs are trying to tear down statues of our founders, deface our most sacred memorials, and unleash a wave of violent crime in our cities,” he said.

“Many of these people have no idea why they’re doing this, but some know what they are doing. They think the American people are weak and soft and submissive, but no, the American people are strong and proud and they will not allow our country and all of its values, history, and culture to be taken from them.”

Nor will he allow them to use fraudulent grievances to get away with halting events like his July 4th festivities.
