Man describes being abandoned and held ‘hostage’ in CHOP zone in a leaderless Seattle

Conditions within the Seattle Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone (CHAZ), a.k.a. the Organized Protest (CHOP), were exacerbated by “terrible leadership” from the mayor and other city officials that held taxpayers hostage, suggested a man who owns property in the area, opining that the enclave devolved into  a “homeless encampment with no direction.”

Far-left Mayor Jenny Durkan likened the CHOP chaos to a “summer of love,” that is, apparently until protesters showed up at her residence. She subsequently deployed cops to dismantle the six-block anarchist-controlled area via an executive order.

“Durkan’s executive order came after a series of late-night shootings killed two people and seriously wounded three others in the area. Police said other violent crimes have been documented within the zone since demonstrators took over several blocks in the Capitol Hill neighborhood last month,” Fox News reported.

In a man-on-the-street interview aired by NowThisNews, the Seattle man declined to be specific about his ownership interests in the neighborhood, admitting with a laugh that “I’d rather not get killed by these Antifa people.”

“Being a longtime resident here, an owner, and very understanding of the political message that was trying to be conveyed, this whole situation has been totally out of hand. The disconnect between the mayor and the city leaders, and the residents and the businesses, has been terrible,” he explained.

“I don’t understand why there isn’t any communication. We were left in the dark. From one day to the next, we didn’t know what was going on. Poor, poor leadership, and I’m just incredibly discouraged that residents and businesses here — people that have lived here and paid taxes forever and everything continues to cost more — yet there is no leadership, there is no communication, and that was incredibly dejecting, discouraging.”

Living conditions during the approximately four-week protest were nearly intolerable, he explained.

“It’s been terrible. It’s been loud at night. During the day, these people seemed to be relatively calm. I’ve been down here almost every day, and I’ve seen a lot of weird stuff, a lot of assault weapons, a lot of anger, a lot of drugs and drinking. So it hasn’t been a positive thing. I mean, the message was kind of lost weeks ago. So we just basically had a homeless encampment here, and people with no direction.

“This was tough to see, and kids getting killed, total anger. Like I said…where is the city leadership?”

He agreed with the interviewer that it felt like residents were held hostage but locals are understandably intimidated from talking about it.

“It was totally unfair. And a lot of people don’t want to talk. A lot of people are worried and scared, and they don’t want to express their opinion because they’re worried about retribution. And I don’t blame them.”

Separately, various reports have emerged that fed-up businesses are leaving Seattle (and the state of Washington) permanently.

Twitter reacted to the Seattle resident’s forthright comments.
