‘There is danger coming’: Tim Scott masterfully and mercilessly takes Dems apart for police reform snub

South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott snapped. After days of enduring racist tirades and death threats from random left-wing callers, after days of being dismissed by the Democrat Party’s top brass, after days of total bullschiff, the black senator finally let them have it.

In a 30-minute-long speech on the Senate floor Wednesday, Scott laid into Democrats for refusing to engage on the issues, for walking out in the middle of discussions, for saying no to everything he’d proposed, for smearing him and his Republican colleagues, for being disloyal to black voters and for running so many cities to the ground.

Watch the whole speech below, or read on for the major highlights:

The senator delivered the speech after, at the behest of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, nearly every Democrat in the Senate voted to block the JUSTICE Act, a police reform bill that he, a black man, had written.

“Today we lost — I lost — a vote on a piece of legislation that would have led to systemic change in the relationship between the communities of color and the law enforcement community. … This legislation spoke to the important issues that have brought us here today. We wouldn’t be here if it were not, as Senator Perdue alluded to, for the death of yet another African American man, George Floyd,” he said.

“His murder is why the country has given us the opportunity to lead, to lead. And my friends on the other side just said no. Not no to the legislation. They just said no.”

Indeed they did, though their “no” was expected.

Since day one, Pelosi and Schumer, both white, have dismissed the bill. Speaking on CBS News Radio this Tuesday, Pelosi claimed Scott’s bill was “unsalvageable” and wouldn’t make “any difference.” She further claimed that Republicans like Scott, a black man, were “trying to get away with murder, actually — the murder of George Floyd.”

She later refused to apologize for the incendiary, extremist remark.

Listen:

Following Wednesday’s vote, Schumer delivered a statement to NPR claiming the bill “was so deeply flawed that it was not fixable, even if they let us have a few amendments.”

Except according to Scott, he’d offered Democrats at least 20 amendments and counting.

“We offered them opportunities, at least 20 I offered, to change it. Their answer to me? You can’t offer 20 amendments. I said why not? Because Mitch McConnell won’t give 20 amendments. I spoke to Mitch McConnell. He said you can have 20 amendments,” he explained.

Yet no matter what he offered and included in the bill, the answer always remained no, with Democrats instead preferring to stick with their longtime strategy of just stomping their fists like spoiled children and demonizing Republicans in bad faith.

It’s as if the legislation isn’t the actual issue but rather “WHO” is proposing it.

“The actual problem is not what is being offered. It is who is offering it…. As a black man, I get the ‘who’ being the problem. It’s one of the reasons why I went to Senator McConnell and said I want to lead this conversation,” Scott explained.

“What I missed in this issue is that the stereotyping of Republicans is just as toxic to the outcomes of the most vulnerable communities in this nation…. They cannot allow this party as a party to be seen as a party that reaches out to all communities in this nation.”

Listen:

“When Speaker Pelosi says one of the most heinous things I can imagine: that the Republicans are actually trying to cover up murder, the murder of George Floyd with our legislation, that’s not politics,” he added.

It’s hate. Racially motivated hate, in Scott’s case. And sadly, it’s worked.

CNN reported Wednesday that the senator “has seen an uptick in racist and profanity-laced voicemails at his office since becoming the lead Republican on police reform legislation, including from one person who called him ‘Uncle Tim.'”

Continuing his speech Wednesday, Scott noticed the irony of everything that’s currently happening. The fact is, he said, that the communities that have experienced the most police brutality could have implemented reform measures themselves.

Yet they never did …

“In Detroit, Atlanta, Minneapolis, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, all these cities could have banned chokeholds themselves,” he said. “They could have increased the police reporting themselves. They could have more data information themselves. They could have de-escalation training themselves. They could have duty-to-intervene themselves, Minneapolis as well.”

Why?

All these communities have been run by Democrats for decades,” Scott added. “Decades. What is the ROI for the poorest people in this nation? And I don’t blame them. I blame an elite political class with billions of dollars to do whatever they want to do and look at the results for the poorest, most vulnerable people in our nation. I’m willing to compete for their vote. Are you?

Listen:

The sad answer to his question is no. As he’d noted slightly earlier in the speech, Democrats think they own minority communities — and thus they feel no reason to even make an effort. And that’s the problem with minority communities blindly entrusting their faith in only one party — “the return they get will always continue to go down because in monopolies, you start devaluing your customer.”

And to say that Democrats devalue the black vote would be a gross understatement, as Scott knows all too well.
