Trump responds to Colin Powell after he went on CNN to talk smack and declare he’s voting for Biden

Colin Powell, who served as Secretary of State under President George W. Bush, appeared on CNN Sunday — where else, right? — to slam President Donald Trump for his efforts to maintain law and order amid the violent riots over the death of George Floyd.

The so-called Republican also proclaimed that he is voting for presumptive 2020 Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden.

All of which prompted a quick retort from the president, who called the former Bush official a “real stiff” who led America into “the disastrous Middle East Wars.”

“Colin Powell, a real stiff who was very responsible for getting us into the disastrous Middle East Wars, just announced he will be voting for another stiff, Sleepy Joe Biden. Didn’t Powell say that Iraq had “weapons of mass destruction?” They didn’t, but off we went to WAR!” Trump tweeted.

In an appearance on “State of the Union,” Powell sided with several former Trump officials, to include former Defense Secretary James Mattis, who questioned Trump’s leadership when he threatened to call in the U.S. military to maintain law and order.

The president’s remark comes as rioters controlled the streets in numerous American cities, including Washington DC, where looting and burning were rampant and citizens were being beaten in the street — a little-reported fact is that 17 people died as a result of the protests calling for peace.

“I’m so proud of what these generals and admirals have done and others have done,” Powell said, of those who opposed using the military to take back the streets.

He also said he agreed with the assessment from Mattis, who broke with Trump when the president pulled troops out of Syria — how does that decision look today?

“You have to agree with it. Look at what [Trump] has done to divide us,” Powell said.

He also suggested the protests were as much against Trump as they were for justice.

“I think what we’re seeing now, those massive protest movements I have ever seen in my life, I think this suggests that the country is getting wise to this and we’re not going to put up with it anymore,” Powell said.

The “Republican” who voted for Hillary Clinton in 2016 — let that sink in — also sang Biden’s praises on Sunday, claiming he shared similar political views.

“I’m very close to Joe Biden in a social manner and political manner,” he said, after being led by CNN anchor Jake Tapper. “I’ve worked with him for 35, 40 years, and he is now the candidate and I will be voting for him.”

Ironically, while talking about the Rodney King riots in 1992, Powell justified former President George H.W. Bush mobilized federal troops to restore order in Los Angeles.

Powell was chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff at the time.

“The president always followed the law, followed the Constitution, worked with the community, and we brought stability finally,” he said, referencing the elder Bush. “It was a bad scene, but we got over it rather quickly.”

Or, in other words, federal troops for me, but not for thee.
