Somber Greg Gutfeld ‘so depressed’ as ‘The Five’ hosts share raw feelings about the fall of America

Fox News co-host of “The Five” Greg Gutfeld dejectedly castigated the bulk of the establishment media Tuesday evening for their outsized focus on the actions and statements of President Donald Trump rather than the chaotic state of the country.

Protests over the untimely and unfortunate demise of Minneapolis resident George Floyd at the hands of police have continued for more than a week after the incident, spawning riots and random acts of violence that are spreading through major cities.

Peaceful demonstrations have turned into wanton rioting and looting, scores of small businesses that were already struggling economically after having been shuttered due to coronavirus have either devastated by damage and fire.

Yet, as police and National Guard units struggle to restore order amid often weak and indecisive Democratic leadership, much of the media’s focus remains on the president, not the lives and livelihoods being destroyed by criminal elements pushing entire cities to the brink of anarchy.

As Gutfeld introduced a segment of The Five, he played several clips of hosts from CNN ripping President Trump’s tweeted statements and observations as they pointedly ignore the escalating violence.

“Amazing. Meanwhile, The New York Times headline reads ‘America’s protest won’t stop until police brutality does.Meaning that this could go on forever. One of their scribes chides Mayor [Bill] de Blasio for being too pro-police. Meanwhile, the city burns and stores are looted, cops are beaten, and people are beaten too,” Gutfeld notes.

“And the New York media, by sticking to their narrative that we deserve the punishment, reject protecting the citizens. They mock the need for military intervention,” Gutfeld continued.

“People have families and relatives, and they have spouses who work at night. When our leaders believe the mayhem is inevitable and perhaps necessary, then who protects us now?” The co-host added.

“Still, others blame Trump. Now, I watched the streets of my home destroyed. It wasn’t Trump, it was criminals that knew that the light touch of impotent leaders allows for ruin. How is it Trump’s fault that a cop killed a defenseless man and a liberal town held by liberal politicians? It’s not, but the media says the opposite,” said Gutfeld.

“It’s why, when you say ‘Everyone’s in agreement over Mr. Floyd’ including Trump, it’s not enough. Which tells you that they want no end to the violence. They want to burn it all down. ‘They,’ being radicals on the street,” he said.

Gutfeld noted further that “minority” businesses and shops are among those hypocritically being destroyed by rioters who are ostensibly acting out on behalf of a minority, Floyd.

“Minorities are paying the price. Minorities, in general, always pay the price,” Gutfeld lamented. “The only people who aren’t paying the price are the media. They wax poetic and they rake it in. They hope if they feed the crocodile enough, as [British Prime Minister Winston] Churchill once said, it will eat them last.

“It will, and then it’ll get food poisoning,” Gutfeld continued with a half-hearted joke.

As Gutfeld prepared to get co-host Dana Perino’s response, he said, “I don’t know where to start. I am so depressed. I honestly can’t even focus on this anymore. We have the media who are more upset about Trump’s tweets than people getting beaten. I don’t get it.”
