President Donald Trump today announced that the federal government is designating Antifa as a terrorist organization.
The move comes after the radical-left coalition is believed to have instigated looting, property destruction, and physical violence all across the country in the aftermath of the death of George Floyd while he was in the custody of the Minneapolis police.
This formal designation will allow the feds, including the FBI, to devote their massive national security resources to investigate and neutralize the nihilistic group.
Ironically in the extreme, the group that derived its name as an anti-fascist movement has consistently behaved in a very fascistic manner and, over the past few days, contaminated peaceful protests by those who seek justice in the Floyd police misconduct case.
Last July, Trump tweeted that he was considering naming Antifa, which he described as “gutless Radical Left Wack Jobs who go around hitting (only non-fighters) people over the heads with baseball bats,” as a terrorist entity.
The president apparently decided the time is now.
Yesterday, during his Cape Canaveral speech, President Trump declared that “The violence and vandalism is being led by Antifa and other radical left-wing groups who are terrorizing the innocent, destroying jobs, hurting businesses and burning down buildings…my administration will stop mob violence and we’ll stop it cold.”
The decision by Trump was perhaps telegraphed, to some degree, by U.S. Attorney General William Barr who said yesterday that “groups of outside radicals and agitators are exploiting the situation to pursue their own separate and violent agenda. In many places, it appears the violence is planned, organized, and driven by anarchistic and far-left extremists, using Antifa-like tactics, many of whom travel from out of state to promote the violence.”
Barr added that Antifa activists could face federal criminal charges for alleged violations, noting that “it is a federal crime to cross state lines or to use interstate facilities to incite or participate in violent rioting. We will enforce these laws.”

Barr reaffirmed the federal government is aggressively pursuing a civil rights investigation of the officer who pinned Floyd to the ground as well as possibly the other three officers. The officer in question has already been charged with murder on the state level. Further charges against him and the three other officers on the scene are likely.
The AG also noted that while curtailing the riots are primarily a state and local responsibility, federal government agencies stand ready to assist.
On ABC This Week earlier today Robert O’Brien, Trump’s national security adviser explained the following:
“It’s the violent ANTIFA radical militants that are coming out, under cover of night, traveling across state lines, using military-style tactics to burn down our cities. And they’re especially targeting the most venerable parts of our cities, George. The minority section, the African-American sections, and Hispanic areas and burning down businesses of people that are trying to get a leg up. And — and the president’s outraged by that. And we all are. And — and that has to stop. And we’re calling on the FBI to investigate Antifa and — and get to the bottom of these — these violent rioters…And we’ve seen them before in other protests, and we need to get to the bottom of it.”
Within a few minutes of the announcement, Trump also slammed the mainstream media (which in the past has readily served as Antifa apologists), a.k.a., the lamestream media, for making the current civil unrest worse, perhaps similar to the way it fear-mongered the COVID-19 outbreak.
“The Lamestream Media is doing everything within their power to foment hatred and anarchy. As long as everybody understands what they are doing, that they are FAKE NEWS and truly bad people with a sick agenda, we can easily work through them to GREATNESS!”

He also praised the National Guard for its operations in Minneapolis on Saturday night, while calling out other states (and presumably other cities, most under liberal Democrat mayors, by extension) for failing to restore order.
