President Donald Trump is threatening to yank the Republican National Convention out of the battleground state of North Carolina and move it to a more favorable location unless the governor immediately agrees to lift or relax social distancing restrictions that would prevent full occupancy at the venue.

In an extended Twitter stream, the president — who wants the entire country open for business in a safe manner — declared his love for North Carolina but not so much for its Democrat Gov. Roy Cooper.

As a sound businessman, negotiator, and author of The Art of the Deal, Trump also expressed concern about the GOP’s return on investment, or lack thereof, if the Tarheel State’s strict COVID-19 lockdown continues.

“I love the Great State of North Carolina, so much so that I insisted on having the Republican National Convention in Charlotte at the end of August. Unfortunately, Democrat Governor, @RoyCooperNC is still in Shutdown mood & unable to guarantee that by August we will be allowed full attendance in the Arena, In other words, we would be spending millions of dollars building the Arena to a very high standard without even knowing if the Democrat Governor would allow the Republican Party to fully occupy the space.

“Plans are being made by many thousands of enthusiastic Republicans, and others, to head to beautiful North Carolina in August. They must be immediately given an answer by the Governor as to whether or not the space will be allowed to be fully occupied. If not, we will be reluctantly forced to find, with all of the jobs and economic development it brings, another Republican National Convention site. This is not something I want to do. Thank you, and I LOVE the people of North Carolina!”

While red-state governors in Texas, Florida, and Georgia are reopening their states and allowing commerce and business to restart and their constituents to go back to work, Democrat governors and their acolytes seem more inclined to keep their populations under house arrest indefinitely.

In a recent appearance on Fox News, U.S. Sen. John Kennedy (R-La.) suggested that fear-mongering liberals are pushing a blatantly false premise by claiming that the choice is the economy or death and no in between.

Despite all the rhetoric about protecting public health, the left and the politicians they control would love to see the economy continue to suffer right up until Election Day, November 3, 2020, as a way to harm Trump’s chances for a second term. North Carolina is likely a must-win state for the Trump campaign.

In an appearance this morning on Fox & Friends, Vice President Mike Pence echoed the president’s concern about full access to the Charlotte’s Spectrum Center for the RNC that is scheduled for August 24 through August 27.

“It’s an issue we’ve been talking about…because these national conventions literally take many months to organize and prepare…What the president is saying today is a very reasonable request of the governor of North Carolina. We all want to be in Charlotte, we love North Carolina but having a sense now is absolutely essential because of the immense preparations that are involved, and we look forward to working with Gov. Cooper, getting a swift response, and if needs be, moving the national convention to a state that is farther along on reopening and can say with confidence that we can gather there.”

President Trump has supposedly floated the idea previously of moving the convention to Florida “given Cooper’s decision to maintain social distancing guidelines over coronavirus fears,” according to the Daily Caller.
