President Donald Trump has had a troubling relationship with the press from even before he took office, and given that he fights back with a vengeance, which is almost unheard of when it comes to Republicans, it would be a generous assessment to say that relationship is rocky.
Which is not to say that Trump hasn’t made overtures to the media, even though an overwhelming majority tasked with covering the president are practically deranged in their hatred of the man.
One such overture was seen Thursday, as Trump was asked whether he is considering attending a rocket launch next week at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida.
In confirming that he’s thinking about going, Trump joked with the press pool about the possibility of putting a few of them on the rocket prior to launch.
“I’m thinking about going — that’ll be next week — to the rocket launch. I hope you’re all going to join me. I’d like to put you on the rocket and get rid of you for a while,” the president quipped.

Vice President Mike Pence, who was meeting with Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis in Florida on Wednesday, said he is planning to attend the launch.
“I’m going to be back in a week,” Pence said. “Because not too far from here, for the first time in almost 10 years, we’re going to send American astronauts back to space in American rockets from Kennedy Space.”
Trump’s remark, which came at the White House as he was about to depart for a trip to Michigan to visit a Ford plant, suggests a love-hate relationship on his part when it comes to the media — there was no sign of animosity in his voice as he spoke, and he did so with a mischievously smirk.
The only problem is, for too many reporters, it’s more of a hate-hate relationship.
This being the same cabal that has all but outlawed the prospect of having a sense of humor when it comes to the president.
As for that sense of humor, it was on display Thursday when Trump was asked how long he planned on taking hydroxychloroquine.

“I think it’s another day,” he told reporters on the South Lawn. ” I had a two-week regimen of hydroxychloroquine. And I’ve taken it, I think, just about two weeks. I think it’s another day. And I’m still here. I’m still here.”
“And I tested very positively in another sense,” Trump continued. “I tested positively toward negative. No, I tested perfectly this morning, meaning I tested negative.”
Again, his boyish playfulness was obvious, though many a reporter pressed for more clarity.
“But that’s a way of saying it, positively toward the negative,” the president said, with a smile.
For what it’s worth, President Trump confirmed that he has not taken an antibody test for the coronavirus.
