Tom Cotton says Kamala Harris resolution to deem ‘Wuhan virus’ hate speech cover for ‘more serious point’

U.S. Sen. Tom Cotton is objecting to the irrelevant, virtue-signaling resolution proposed by his other-side-of-the-aisle colleague Sen. Kamala Harris that would condemn the phrases “Wuhan Virus”  or “Chinese Virus” as racist hate speech.

Cotton described the pending Senate resolution as a politically correct distraction by Democrats and their misplaced priorities given China’s geopolitical ambitions and the fact that it released the coronavirus on the world with devastating results for public health and the economy.

Cotton (R-Ark.) explained his opposition to the motion to Brian Kilmeade on Fox & Friends:

“Well, I object to that resolution, Brian. First off, Wuhan is just a city, it’s not even a people. I guess she is going to have to call out Lyme disease for being anti-Connecticut or maybe Legionnaires Disease for being anti-veterans, Zika since Zika is a force in Africa.

“This political correctness run amok covers a more serious point. The Democrats want to wave their arms and say this is racist or xenophobic and that’s because they don’t have an answer for China’s rise and the threat that China poses to us.

“Joe Biden has been weak on China for 30 years…so they want to have politically correct distractions to distract people from his terrible record on China. We can’t let that happen.”

Past outbreaks such as the Spanish flu, Hong Kong flu, or German measles would probably also violate current social justice norms.

Kamala Harris of California is no stranger to playing the race card.

While a rival to Joe Biden for the 2020 Democrat presidential nomination, Harris implied that Sleepy Joe was racist for opposing busing back in the day when he was representing Delaware in the U.S. Senate.

Harris is now angling to be Biden’s vice-presidential running mate.

According to Harris’ resolution which most Democrats are supporting, “The use of anti-Asian terminology and rhetoric related to COVID-19, such as the “‘Chinese Virus,’ ‘Wuhan Virus,’ and ‘Kung-flu,’ have perpetuated anti-Asian stigma.”

She also tries to link this with an alleged rise in anti-Asian hate crimes and calls upon law enforcement officials to investigate and prosecute such hate-crime perpetrators.

Back in March, President Trump explained that “I talk about the Chinese Virus. And I mean it. That’s where it came from…if you look at all these horrible diseases, they seem to come with the name [and] with the location. And this was the Chinese virus.”

He did acknowledge that there was some sensitivity on China’s part and since then, he has used the term sparingly.

Cotton added that “I don’t think it would be any surprise if Beijing wanted Joe Biden to win the election. Joe Biden has a terrible 30-year record on China whether it’s voting to give them normal trade relations or elevating them to the WTO and celebrating their rise, saying last year they weren’t our competitors. We shouldn’t be in a position where we are today where they have some leverage over Americans. For instance, because they produce so many of our drugs and medical equipment. But in a gradual step-by-step fashion we need to begin to change that relationship and turn the tables on China.”

Tom Cotton and other GOP senators want China to be held accountable for the COVID-19 devastation.

Donald Trump is the first president in recent memory who has stood up to China by reforming one-sided trade arrangements and bringing the supply chain back to America.

The Harris resolution is another manifestation of the agenda of “America Last” Democrats and a preview of what might happen if Biden somehow stumbles into the White House after the November election.
