The co-hosts of the “Fox & Friends” morning show on Thursday sided with an op-ed in the New York Post demanding that Mayor Bill de Blasio and Gov. Andrew Cuomo rescind coronavirus-related ‘stay-at-home’ orders that have shuttered thousands of businesses and thrown hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers out of work.
The segment kicked off with legal analyst Judge Andrew Napolitano joining co-hosts Brian Kilmeade, Ainsley Earhardt, and Steve Doocy to discuss the Post’s op-ed by columnist David Marcus, which noted that the lockdown “needs to end. Now.”
He wrote:
In mid-March, we were told we have to endure a lockdown to ensure that hospitals didn’t get overrun. We did. The hospitals were not overwhelmed. We turned the Javits Center into a hospital. We didn’t need it. We brought in a giant Navy ship to treat New Yorkers. We didn’t need it.
We were told we were moments away from running out of ventilators. We weren’t, and now the United States has built so many, we are giving them away to other countries.
Marcus went on to note that scores of businesses that have been ordered shut because they were deemed “non-essential” by de Blasio and Cuomo are closed for good while city streets remain empty as the Big Apple “is dying.”
“Instead of getting people back to work providing for their families, our mayor talks about a fantasyland New Deal for the post-coronavirus era,” he added.
“Open the city. All of it. Right now. Broadway shows, beaches, Yankees games, the schools, the top of the freakin’ Empire State building. Everything. New Yorkers have already learned to socially distance. Businesses can adjust. The elderly and infirm can continue to be isolated,” he said.
As Earhardt read a portion of the op-ed to Napolitano, she asked the former judge if he agreed with the sentiment.

“I could not agree more with that,” he responded. “It’s time for all of us to come back to our normal society, with concerns for the spread of the contagion. We can live with social distancing and operate our businesses and go to restaurants and go to work and ride mass transit and liven up those streets again.
“But we have a mayor in New York that loves asserting power and controlling people,” Napolitano continued. “Even to the point of sending police to disrupt religious organizations in the middle of the ceremony. This is not right, and it’s got to end. Enough is enough.”
Kilmeade agreed, noting that there are calls for mass civil disobedience.
“They are calling for people just to massively open up their businesses throughout the city. They can’t stop everyone. Would you be against that?” Kilmeade asked.
“I would be 100% in favor of it, and I think you’re going to see it this weekend,” Napolitano replied, referencing the approaching Memorial Day weekend. “Everybody fears that people from New York City are going to go to Long Island or New Jersey where the beaches will be open. I think they’re going to go to the New York City beaches, and I think you’re going to see businesses start to open, and I think you’re going to see the police cheer them on when they do this.”
De Blasio warned earlier this week that anyone caught swimming in the ocean will be physically removed.
“Obviously first and foremost, help make everyone remember don’t go in the water. You’re not supposed to go in the water. It’s a dangerous situation to ever go in the water when there’s no lifeguards present. If anyone tries to get in the water they’ll be taken right out of the water,” he said.
“So it sounds like you think that some businesses are going to essentially dare the state to arrest them, to shut them down,” Doocy said to Napolitano, who agreed.
