Fox News’ Janice Dean takes Gov Cuomo, lib media to task for nursing home outrage

COVID-19 has ravaged nursing homes around the country, and there are a lot of reasons for that — mostly incompetence on the part of certain governors who just happen to be members of the Democrat Party.

But as is so often the case, the Left-leaning “mainstream media” is slanting its coverage by largely ignoring policy failures by governors like Andrew Cuomo in New York and Phil Murphy in New Jersey that likely led to unnecessarily high coronavirus nursing home death rates.

Fox News senior meteorologist Janice Dean, whose in-laws both perished from COVID-19 in a New York nursing home, highlighted the difference in mainstream media coverage in a tweet to MSNBC host Rachel Maddow on Monday.

Maddow tweeted an op-ed from the Arizona Republic in which the writer, Laurie Roberts, is calling the state’s decision “for not naming nursing homes where seniors are dying after contracting COVID-19 is truly astounding.”

Arizona’s governor, Doug Ducey, is a Republican.

Roberts writes:

More than half of the Arizonans who have died after contracting COVID-19 are people who were living in nursing homes and assisted living centers. In Maricopa County, long-term care facilities thus far account for two-thirds of the deaths.

Yet the state refuses to tell us which long-term care facilities have been hit by the coronavirus.

Fair enough, Dean noted in a response to Maddow’s tweet. But how much coverage has the MSNBC host given to similarly bad decisions in her own state of New York?

Dean then posted another tweet noting that Maddow had retweeted a Cuomo post in which he was getting a coronavirus test.

Other users noted that Arizona isn’t the only state not reporting coronavirus nursing home deaths. Neither is Virginia, which is led by Democratic Gov. Ralph Northam, apparently.

Dean has been highly critical of Cuomo’s decision to force nursing homes to accept COVID-19 patients beginning in March, which she and many others believe led to a dramatic spike in coronavirus deaths in eldercare facilities.

Following a report that the Cuomo administration was purposely undercounting the number of coronavirus nursing home deaths, Dean took to Twitter to say she was “furious” about it.

Perhaps sensing rising pressure on him over his actions, Cuomo said Saturday during his regular press conference that no one should be “prosecuted” for coronavirus policies.

“People are going to die by this virus. That is the truth. Best hospital system on the globe, I believe we have. Best doctors, best nurses who’ve responded like heroes. Every medication, ventilators…the health system wants for nothing. We worked it out so that we always had available beds. Nobody was deprived of a bed or medical coverage in any way. And still people died.”

The New York Democrat added that “older people, vulnerable people are going to die from this virus. That is going to happen. Despite whatever you do. Because with all our progress as a society, we can’t keep everyone alive.

“Older people are more vulnerable, and that is a fact,” he continued. “That is not going to change. There’s a randomness to this virus that is inexplicable.”

As best we can tell, Maddow hasn’t addressed Cuomo’s blunder. She did, however, claim in late March — after his decision to move coronavirus patients to nursing homes — that he was the COVID-19 response boss.
